Rising Stars: Meet Lex Hockey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex Hockey.

Lex Hockey

Hi Lex, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I try to look back to figure out exactly where I started in my photography journey I struggle to find the exact moment that I can define as the start. I have always been the girl with the camera.

But I will say a real defining moment was when I started bringing my camera to local hardcore shows in the underground PA music scene.

It was like a switch flipped on in my head and I knew from that moment on that this was where I was meant to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish! haha It has certainly been a journey, to say the least.

In my time as a photographer, I have hit many bumps in the road. From struggling with self-doubt to sexism to being so poor that I could barely make it by. There have definitely been some challenges along the way.

However, when I look back I would never change a thing. The struggles have taught me a lot about life and have helped shape me into the person and artist I am today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am a music photographer based out of Los Angeles. I specialize in live music, but this year I have been moving into creating album art for local musicians.

Recently I have photographed bands/musicians such as Andrew Bird, Caroline Rose, Sir Chloe, Bratmobile, and many more.

I am mostly known for the work that I have done with the Lodge Room in Highland Park and The Baby Goats.

The most recognizable aspects of my work are my wider shots in the crowd and my high-contrast color correcting.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
