Rising Stars: Meet Laura Tabanyi of Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Tabanyi.

Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’d like to start by thanking VoyageLA for sharing my story! My journey into events began when I was 15, spending weekends entertaining kids and seeing firsthand how much joy a celebration can create. A few years later, I took that passion and teamed up with my mom to co-found our first business, Sweet and Social Kids Entertainment. We built a brand focused on creativity, fun, and unforgettable memories for families who trusted us with their biggest moments.

Being surrounded by so many events sparked something bigger in me. I became obsessed with the transformation part: turning a plain room into a full-blown experience. Balloons, backdrops, props, color… I loved how one creative choice could change everything. That curiosity grew into courage, and courage turned into the next chapter: Laura Luxe Designs.

Today, I get to bring that same excitement to all types of celebrations, creating designs that feel vibrant, personal, and truly memorable. Every event is a chance to make someone feel celebrated in a way that reflects who they are.

This journey has been full of growth and surprises, and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One memory that perfectly sums up how it all began: I woke up one day and thought, “Okay, I’m really doing this.” Without saying a word to anyone, I ordered 15 backdrops, cake stands, signs, and décor pieces. Everything showed up on a random Monday morning and completely filled the driveway. My family walked outside in total disbelief. It was equal parts thrilling and chaotic.

Excitement was quickly followed by reality. Suddenly, I had massive props to manage, no storage plan, and a very confused household. As supportive as my family is, it definitely added some stress to all our lives. I had bitten off more than I could chew, but diving in headfirst is kind of my signature move.

I also learned early on that nothing is simply handed to you. You have to build your own opportunities. Those early days came with a real learning curve. I was figuring out logistics, sharpening my creativity, and learning how to drive a giant U-Haul with only mild panic.

What keeps me going is this: I will always accept the challenge first and trust myself to figure it out along the way. Some of my best work has grown out of moments of uncertainty. There are still times I doubt myself or worry I’ve taken on too much, but I show up, push through, and get it done. There is nothing more rewarding than looking back and realizing what you were capable of all along.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I get to live my dream every day as an event designer and coordinator. I work on everything from intimate celebrations to large-scale parties, but my true heart belongs to balloons and backdrops. I love transforming a blank canvas into something playful, bold, and full of personality.

I specialize in taking a single inspiration photo and turning it into a full-blown moment. Collaboration, visual mockups, and thoughtful planning are my tools so that when the big day arrives, the only surprises are the happy ones. My clients trust me because I care about the details just as much as they do.

Behind every beautiful event are long hours, heavy lifting, and the kind of problem-solving no one ever sees. Setup challenges and last-minute adjustments are all part of making sure everything feels effortless for my clients. That dedication is exactly what I love about this work. If something needs fixing or reimagining, I am already on it until it looks just right.

One thing I am especially proud of is staying open to new ideas. Over the years, I have tackled some unique requests, and I always try to find a way to make them happen. I’ll never forget planning a party on a four-level mega-yacht, or the baby shower where my client wanted a bathtub as the focal point. Sourcing and styling a tub is no small task, but we made it happen and created the sweetest bubble bath theme for her daughter. Moments like that remind me exactly why I love what I do.

At the end of the day, I am here to bring joy, excitement, and a little bit of magic to your celebration so that when you walk in, you think, “This is even better than I imagined.”

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Kindness and consistency are the foundation of everything I do. Kindness matters because this work is deeply personal. I am stepping into people’s biggest moments, and it is important to me that they feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for from start to finish.

Consistency is just as essential. It is one thing to create something beautiful once, but showing up with the same level of dedication, care, and attention every single time is what builds trust. It is what keeps clients coming back, and what keeps me proud of the work I deliver.
