Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Martin.
Hi Kristin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an entertainment reporter and producer who has worked in the entertainment industry working both behind and in front of the camera for over 20 years.
After getting my degree in communications/journalism, I got my foot into television by getting hired as a page for Jay Leno on the Tonight Show. From there, I was able to get my foot in the door at the Australian NBC affiliate here in LA and started an on-air position covering all of their entertainment for their major morning show, Sunrise and covered hundreds of press junkets, red carpets and events including the Emmys, Golden Globes and the Oscars. I have had the pleasure to be able to interview everyone from Tom Hanks, Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Aniston, and many more…and also some of the most amazing writers and directors for many movies and TV shows over the years.
In addition, I have worked for shows such as Inside Edition and Extra in the past and still work for many of the major studios, including Warner Brothers, Sony, Paramount and Universal.
Over the years, I started media training actors, writers, directors and producers on a small scale, but recently created my own company, Kristin Martin Media and expanded my business and am taking it to a whole new level!! I am very excited about this part of my career and so grateful for the opportunities I am getting.
It is a part of the business I love so much! I feel like I have covered so many different aspects of covering the entertainment industry and wanted to share my experience to help people learn how to conduct interviews in a fun and effective way, so they can promote themselves, their show, movie or business. It doesn’t matter if someone has been in the industry for a week or 10 years, they can always benefit by honing in on their skills to get better and better to represent themselves, their fellow cast and producers, the studio or the network they are working with.
In addition to continuing to go on set, my main focus to continue to media train for the studios, for independent people and businesses who need to learn skills for their particular craft.
I try to make Kristin Martin Media extremely personal, fun, informative, useful and filled with tips that anyone can take with them through their career!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been smooth. I had the opportunity years ago to go on air full-time for a major show, but I had just had my first daughter. I didn’t want to have someone else raise her, so I turned that opportunity down and went freelance. This was an incredibly difficult decision after getting to a place in my career that was taking off. I then had twins and luckily right after that, I got many freelance opportunities. I was very lucky to be able to continue working with major shows and companies and also raise my kids.
Another very trying time was sustaining my business through Covid shutdown. The studios did not have me on set for 20 months. Most of my interviews had to take place over zoom when they did actually happen. It was a very slow and scary time for me after having a successful and busy career for over 20 years. I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen.
This is when I got very motivated and created Kristin Martin Media. I knew I had to get creative and think outside of the box, so starting my own business media training was my priority and something I was very excited about doing.
I have been very lucky to be able to expand my business during a very scary time and welcome this new opportunity and am so thankful for the work I am getting.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in interviewing many different kinds of people. I feel like I have a gift of making people feel very comfortable. I specialize in creating an interview setting that is very personal and fun. I love to laugh and to make people enjoy their time with me. I always tell people who are hesitant to just pretend they are having a conversation with me and let me do the work.
I am a media trainer who will teach a course that will be so fun and personal and allow someone to walk away feeling confident about any project that comes their way going forward.
The studios and networks and independent students choose me because I have been able to build amazing and trusting relationships with them. They allow me to create and bring my own personal and extensive experience to the table.
I stand out because I have amazing relationships and feel like I can make just about anyone feel at ease while teaching them some pretty awesome skills that they will have for a lifetime.
How do you define success?
Success to me is being able to do something you love and are good at, and at the same time, if you can combine that with making a living …that is a win win. Success is something I keep striving for. I get to one level and am always ready to push to the next level.
I never want to stop pushing the boundaries of what I am capable of.
If I can make one person’s day by teaching them something they need to learn to be successful, then I feel successful.
