Rising Stars: Meet Khalil Miles of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khalil Miles

Hi Khalil , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From a young age, I’ve always had a deep passion for music. My family used to call me an “old soul,” always intrigued by artistry and talent in ways beyond my years. Growing up in an environment where music was a constant presence—thanks to my dad and aunt working in the industry—only fueled my curiosity about that world and what role I could play in it.

In high school, I joined the band and quickly found a sense of community through my love for instruments and music. It was a space where I could connect with others who shared the same passion. After high school, I attended the prestigious North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, majoring in Journalism and Communications. Those four years were some of the best of my life—full of growth, self-discovery, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories.

During college, I had the opportunity to spend a summer in Los Angeles, where I interned and gained firsthand insight into the entertainment industry. My first internship was on Season 1 of Insecure—an experience I’ll never forget. I had always known LA was a place I’d love to live, but that summer solidified it. The energy, the creativity, the people—it was everything I had dreamed of.

Fast forward to graduation in May 2018. I moved to LA, feeling both excited and nervous about starting a new chapter. Thankfully, I had family support, which allowed me to save up while searching for the right opportunity. I began taking on small PA jobs to build my resume, but it didn’t take long to realize that production wasn’t where my true passion lay. Music was still my heart and soul.

I dove into researching PR, specifically music PR, and connected with people who had experience in that field. Eventually, I found a Black-owned PR agency in LA that gave me a real chance. I didn’t know much about PR at the time, but someone saw potential in me—and that opportunity changed everything. I’ve always been drawn to entertainment, music, artistry, fashion, and the lifestyle that Hollywood represents. Music and Lifestyle PR turned out to be the perfect fit.

Through my work, I’ve been able to do things I once only dreamed of, from attending concerts and festivals to working major events like the Grammys, BET Awards, and the NAACP Image Awards and more. I’ve had the privilege of curating, producing, and coordinating industry events that have had a lasting impact on my life and career. The people I’ve met and the connections I’ve made have been invaluable.

And the best part? I feel like this is just the beginning. There’s so much more to come, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been without its challenges. Like any career, there are obstacles that come with the territory. Not everyone will like you or agree with the ideas you put out. This industry has definitely taught me the importance of resilience—learning not to take things personally. As someone who’s been a little too sensitive in the past, I’ve had to toughen up and grow thicker skin.

Another challenge has been recognizing that not everyone will be there to support you. Over time, I’ve had to learn how to distinguish between those who genuinely have your back and those who don’t. In this field, it’s inevitable that you’ll find yourself in situations where you have to agree to disagree, and the key is how you move forward from there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a passionate artist enthusiast, team player, and relationship builder with expertise in publicity, music, media, and artist management. I hold a BS in Journalism & Mass Communications from North Carolina A&T State University, and my career has provided me with the opportunity to work alongside some of the biggest names in the industry.

One of my proudest accomplishments to date is leading the first installment of Mom Honors in 2024. This event was created to celebrate and honor mothers in the entertainment industry who successfully balance the demands of their careers and their roles as parents. We had the privilege of honoring incredible women like Jhene Aiko, Jordin Sparks, Alex Isley, and more. The goal is to make Mom Honors an annual tradition, held around Mother’s Day, to give these moms their well-deserved recognition for their unique contributions, both professionally and personally.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with major record labels such as Def Jam, RCA, Interscope, and Young Money Cash Money. This has allowed me to collaborate with some of the most influential artists in the game, including Yung Miami, Kash Doll, Summer Walker, Mya, Usher, Kiana Ledé, Angela Simmons, Anthony Hamilton, Candiace Dillard Bassett, Adam Blackstone and more. These experiences have sharpened my skills in working cross-functionally with marketing, management, production, and social media teams to execute impactful campaigns.

I’m also proud of the strong relationships I’ve built throughout the industry—collaborating with top record labels like Universal Republic, RCA, and Eone, and media outlets like Billboard, Rolling Stone, Essence, and Complex. My work with brands like Hennessy, Red Bull, and Lobos, along with my connections to photographers, journalists, writers, and venue personnel, has helped me secure optimal media coverage and visibility for artists and clients.

These experiences have shaped me into someone who thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments and is always committed to bringing out the best in both the talent I work with and the teams I collaborate with.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The pandemic underscored the need for taking care of my mental health—both as a publicist and as a person. The pressure to “always be on” in a digital space can be intense, but I learned that setting boundaries and practicing self-care isn’t just important for long-term success, it’s vital to avoid burnout. Understanding the importance of mental well-being for both myself and my clients became a priority in maintaining a healthy work-life balance during such a stressful time.
