Rising Stars: Meet Kevin Posey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Posey.

Kevin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a music producer, sound designer, mixing engineer and composer. I fell in love with the construction and art of creating music at the age of four.

I became a music producer in 2005 while in high school. Throughout the years I’ve produced for artists in New Zealand, USA, Portugal, Australia and Austria.

In 2014 I began composing and doing sound design for film. One of the most notable feature films is titled Social Disturbance. It is now streaming on Tubi and fox soul.

These days I am working on releasing my first single from my upcoming self produced album titled Yellow Roses, featuring Anastasiya, Chozxn, Aubrey Trujillo, Molly Johnson, Douglas McDowell and more. Album will release later this year and the first single in the August.

I am also recording new songs with my duo producer/DJ- DJ Scizzorhands out of New Zealand. Our collective is called Iron Flowerz. It’s a blend of both of our names. Iron for Scizzorhands other name Iron fingaz and Flowerz for my last name.

Throughout the rest of the year I’m producing for artists in LA, Australia and New Zealand. Working on features and co production as well. The artists I’ve worked with this year and still working with are Anastasiya, Chozxn, Douglas McDowell, Brent Paschke, Michele Ducray, King Kyon and Molly Johnson.

I primarily produce using Logic Pro x and my microkorg xl.

Musicians who inspire me and influence me are Kimbra, DJ Quik, Pharrell and Quincy Jones.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would have to say blocking out the noise i of negative people and environments. Not having a support system caused multiple roadblocks. I didn’t come from money and to do this it takes money so I worked a lot. Some nights I didn’t sleep after working 12 hour shifts to get better at my craft of producing. I worked and went to school full-time for three years to obtain a degree in music production. There was a lot of sacrifice in that time.

The pandemic caused a man even bigger roadblock at that time I was in New Zealand making waves in the music industry there. I came back to the states to help my mom through her bout with cancer and it’s been a journey to go anywhere on an international level sense.

However, this time has allowed me to tap into a vulnerable and deeper creative space so I’m thankful for it. This time allowed for discipline and focus to go after the things I want to accomplish as a producer. The ambition from having to be a self starter to get my dreams out is what breeds the motivation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Music Production is my primary field. I’ve produced for artists like, Mazbou Q, Anastasiya, Chozxn, The Rift, REI, Douglas McDowell, Kedú, Aubrey Trujillo and Molly Johnson.

I produce in multiple genres and rarely use samples. I absolutely love finding and playing chords. It keeps the music interesting and fun.

As a producer I’ve learned how to compose for film, to mix records, how to write songs and work in a diverse setting. Producing had opened unimaginable doors for myself and others Ive worked work with.

What sets me apart from others; I care about the music, I’m always a student and I’m lead by passion for the creative process. Not lead by money or fame. Music is my favorite pastime and it’s therapeutic to my soul.

What matters most to you? Why?
My legacy and family.

Staying true to myself and my art. To not compromise either. Having my future family set and living comfortably and to always wait on the Lord and remain humble. To always be kind.
