Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth “5staxx” Jackson.
Hi Kenneth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been in broadcasting for about a year. When I started this, I noticed that there aren’t many marketing and promotional options for fringe businesses owned by people of color. I decided I wanted to create a media cornerstone for that purpose. I’ve had to learn to lean on the same community I wish to serve and not let the message get lost that building with black entrepreneurs is why I do this. The soul of the streets has a voice and CALIS FINEST RADIO is the ear for consumers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
People don’t do business with people they don’t trust. And growing up in our culture it’s been burned into us not to trust people or situations we are unfamiliar with. Being new and ambitious can be perceived wrong. Budgets are important because things can get tight financially. Personal bonds get be stretched by so much exposure.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have various partnerships with many black-owned businesses including Comfort LA. Trap Kitchen, Mr. Fries Man, and Taco Petes just to name a few. Right now, I’ve been working on “The Black Owned Liquor Review” for which I’ve teamed up with AMBASSADOR LIQUOR in Long Beach to review over 35+ brands including Blackstorm Vodka, Woodson Whiskey, and Raindrop Liquor Distributors. Through our podcast and social platforms, we promote and highlight successful business for people in what I can the California Trap Trinity. (Compton Long Beach Los Angeles)
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We need to hold tight to those we care about because nothing is promised.
