Rising Stars: Meet Kathy Leader

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Leader.

Hi Kathy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up at the southern tip of Africa, the daughter of a talented but critical mother and artist. I loved to draw and paint but hid my work away from my mother, knowing that I would not get the encouragement that I needed! That led me to develop The Art Process method and open up my own teaching studio with that same name. My goal was to provide the safest place to explore and delve into creative experience for ANYONE regardless of their experience.

I began to work with all ages: from kids to adults, ANYONE who wanted to explore their innate creative instincts. As I worked more and more with adults, I started to see not only the light that came from being creative but how it deeply affected their lives in so many ways. It felt like a gateway was opened in which they could not only explore their creativity but process their lives through creativity.

I decided to try this method out in the corporate world. I started with small Google groups who were interested in doing something healing for their team. The results were so inspiring that I decided to really pitch my workshops to large companies whose workers felt burnt out, stressed and disconnected. (Exacerbated by the Pandemic). The response was wonderful! To date, I have been working with large teams and leadership groups to bring creative workshops into the workplace in order to build connections and find new ways to problem-solve in a creative way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is smooth! The challenge is finding the right people who would be open to introducing these workshops to their teams and companies. There are so many people out there who are looking for events but they go by many different titles! Scoping them out and sharing what we have to offer has been the biggest challenge. Once we do a workshop for them, they are sold and acknowledge their ongoing value in changing corporate culture.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in bringing creative workshops into corporate settings. I’m known for being calming, nurturing and inspirational in the field. What sets me apart is a mindful process-oriented approach to being creative. By creating a non-competitive environment, teams can develop more trust and communicate better with each other. In addition, we encourage problem-solving in the workplace by practicing creative skills.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My mindful, authentic and kind approach to my work.
