Rising Stars: Meet Kat Brower

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Brower.

Kat Brower

Hi Kat, We’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. Before we get into specifics, please briefly describe how you got to where you are today.
I love storytelling. Whether it be a favorite book I read to my three-year-old, a recounted incident to a friend at a dinner party, or a story that I am helping to tell on stage or film, people are endlessly fascinating, and their stories need to be told. My story is challenging to encapsulate in a paragraph like anyone else’s. I am an East Coast girl who was transplanted to the West Coast in high school and have darted back and forth between the two ever since. Currently, I am living in Los Angeles with my husband and daughter. I collaborate with local artists on various projects and am fascinated by Hollywood history and local lore. I’m currently working on a ghost story – more on that soon!

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Most artists encounter challenges along the way. My most recent challenges include getting into the physical shape needed to be competitive as a performer, ageism, and ongoing time constraints. You must remember to let go of the stuff beyond your control. Control what you can do your best, and be compassionate and open; the right opportunities will flow to you.

Thanks. What else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
It is hard to believe, but my work spans three decades at this point! I started out as a stage actor and have recently moved into film, TV, and voice-over. I am inspired by other actors and creatives and work as an acting coach, primarily to prepare other actors for auditions/self-tapes.

Do you have any big plans?
I would love to dedicate my creative space one day to coaching, performance showcases, self-tapes, and rehearsals. Rehearsal is such a fun and collaborative process—it is incredible how many of my great memories are about rehearsal breakthroughs and not about actual live performances for audiences! Everyone needs a place to work out their creative expressions—I’d like to give artists that space.
