Rising Stars: Meet Kamran Shaikh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamran Shaikh.

Kamran Shaikh

Hi Kamran, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started off as a Pakistani Immigrant in New York. I moved to Georgia in 2006 as an electrical engineer working for a big firm. In 2009 when the recession happened, I got laid off from my job and then started pursuing IT careers at Deloitte and Touche. I was scouted by a couple of producers, walking the lobby for Captain America, Civil War. From there on, an agency contacted me, and the rest is history. My first speaking role was in Ozark. After that, I became SAG-AFTRA eligible. And now I’m a proud SAG-AFTRA member

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an actor is never a smooth ride. There are ups and downs, mostly downs after my fifth or sixth audition. I booked Ozark, and I thought I was on my way, but statistics show that after every 60 to 100 auditions, you book one. So, it’s not as easy and glamorous as people think. The job is the audition. The booking is the icing on the cake. But my ride has been a lot smoother than other actors’ rides, I would say. Very blessed.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started off as a day player actor but quickly made my way to featured and top-of-show guest star status. I’ve been in Ozark, cobra Kai, NCIS, law and Order, Half-baked Part Two, Outer Banks, FBI International, The Tutor, MacGyver, Disney’s Haunted Mansion, and many others. I’ve also done many commercials.

Any big plans?
Right now, I just want to keep doing auditions and booking as much work as I possibly can. I’m beginning to write some short films and planning on directing and producing. But these things take time and effort, a lot of effort.
