Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaili Sincere
Hi Kaili, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well for starters, My birth name is Kaili Pickett but my artist name is Kaili Sincere. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan to a single mother and 3 older brothers. I grew up singing and performing in the church and always viewed it as a dream that I could never pursue. It wasn’t until high school that I joined the Detroit Youth Choir (DYC) and really started to take performing seriously. We even went on to get a golden buzzer in Americas Got Talent: All Stars. I gained so much experience with DYC but I still felt like I wanted to grow as a solo artist. In my senior year I wrote my first song ever called “ Dreamin” and the rest is history. It got so much love and it was very reassuring to me, I had my mind set on going to college for business but I quickly switched my path to study music at AMDA performing arts college in La. It was always my dream to live in La. Fast forward to now I’m very close to graduating and I’ve made so many great friends and connections here in La. I have 4 songs out now and I’m working on releasing my first EP this May. That’s my story!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many struggles along the way. Not only getting doubted by others but doubting myself a little bit in the process. When I first moved here I lost someone very close to me, my grandpa. And I thought I wouldn’t make it through school because I felt so guilty for leaving home. But I had to turn to my music. Writing music is a very delicate and vulnerable process, but RELEASING the music is 10x harder. It’s important for me to always remind myself that I’m strong and I’m resilient enough to push through.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in songwriting and producing. But my goal overall is to be a triple threat. I would love to be in movies or have my songs be in movies. Or to dance on stages all across the globe. I really want to get to the point where people know my name and they know my music. Overall I just want to spend my life being creative in every aspect, and I never want to stop writing and producing.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The thing I love about my hometown, Detroit, is the community. The way people love and care for each other in the city is something you can never recreate anywhere else. It’s like a big family. But ever since moving to La I fell in love with the freedom that lies here. You never have to worry about what you wear or who you talk to, you can just be you and I love that.
