Today we’d like to introduce you to Junior Luna
Hi Junior, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music, and art in general, has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad was in a band and my uncles have been musicians pretty much their entire lives. This definitely had a huge impact on my interests from an early age and that was only amplified by both my mom and dad being supportive in whatever medium I chose to take on. I definitely owe a huge thank you to my parents from instilling a “chase your dreams no matter” mindset.
Fast forward to early 2018 where I met one of my best friends Alex, also known as Dro Barlo. It’s kind of a funny story because I was in line for a concert and he offered to buy me food if I let him cut in line and join me and of course I said yes. Since that day we became very close and he introduced me to the Long Beach music scene and getting involved with something like that is where I fully realized that music and art is where my passion truly lies.
Where things really took another step was when I moved to Argentina in late 2022 with my cousin and one of our best friends. Being that they’re artists themselves, it allowed me to step outside of my circle and step into a creative mindset that I’ve been locked into since. After Argentina, I moved back to Pasadena where I finished writing what are now my first 2 singles and it’s been a nonstop journey since then. I was able to put together a band for live performances and we’ve been lucky enough to have performed throughout California. It’s been a busy and fun year but I’m confident that I’m just scratching the surface at this point.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As much as I would love to say that I’ve had it figured out from day 1 and it’s been nothing but smooth sailing, that definitely hasn’t been the case. As with anything in life, if you want to be great at something there’s a steep learning curve. Being an artist is much more complex than simply just being good at whatever medium of art you choose to pursue. You have to understand community building, you have to understand marketing, and maybe most of all you have to understand how to deal with failure.
I’d like to touch a little bit more on community because I can’t stress enough how important that is. I think there’s a glorified mindset of having to do everything by yourself and having to succeed by yourself but anybody who tells you that they made it with no help and support from anyone is probably lying. Community is everything and uplifting each other, especially especially as artists, is so important.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist I specialize in music but there’s a quote by one of my biggest inspirations, Kevin Abstract, that goes “I want to be remembered for being awesome at everything I do, no matter what medium I decide to pick up on” and that’s been something I’ve lived by the past year. Although being an indie rock artist is my main focus, I’ve picked up dj’ing this past year and photography has always been a passion of mine and I hope to continue to build on these things going into 2025.
One thing that I’m very proud of is being able to provide a space for people to just have a good time. If you go to a Junior Luna concert, you’re gonna dance and have a great time. If you go to a Junior Luna dj set, you’re also gonna dance and have a great time. It feels like it’s becoming harder and harder to find spaces and outlets where you can just experience that and I hope to always be able to provide that space to people.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Support can come in many different ways, but I say that before anything you should just come out to a Junior Luna show. I promise you won’t regret it and you’ll have a great time and ultimately
that’s what I hope to provide to people.
Collaboration can also come in many different ways and I like I said earlier I think community is everything. Whether you’re an artist yourself or whatever it may be I’m always open to working with and supporting others.
