Rising Stars: Meet Julana Dizon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julana Dizon.

Hi Julana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always loved animals and knew I wanted to be a zoologist at age 4. After graduating with a biology degree from Florida State University, I landed a job as an animal trainer in Orlando, FL, where I worked with everything from monkeys to camels, big cats, birds of prey, reptiles, dogs, parrots, lemurs, hoof stock, and everything in between!

To make extra income, I started modeling part-time. Modeling turned into a full-time career, taking me all around the world and eventually leading me to Los Angeles, where I was introduced to the world of hosting. I’ve always loved traveling and naturally found myself seeking out opportunities to learn about local wildlife during my work trips.

Recently my career life has come full circle by allowing my to combine my hosting career with my love for animals. In my new series, Wild Adventures, I get to travel and share some of the coolest animal experiences around the world!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacle that has held me back was simply my own inaction. For years I worked red carpets and wrote celebrity news stories while feeling that my heart wasn’t fully invested in it. I always thought about creating my own show, but always gave myself excuses. It’s been a ton of work creating, filming, editing, and promoting it all but I’ve loved every step of the process. Since launching Wild Adventures this year I’ve realized that you always have time for things you are super passionate about!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a travel host specializing in wildlife experiences and conservation. In my show, Wild Adventures, we travel all over the world highlighting places where you can get up close and personal with some really cool animals. In season one, we learned about green iguanas in Belize, fed flamingos in Florida, and saw one of the last great wildlife migrations left in the world!

While creating Wild Adventures, I found that there weren’t many diverse female hosts in the wildlife space, and I feel happy to be able to step in and help fill that void.

I love sharing my love of animals with others because my hope is that that by increasing the understanding and respect for wildlife around the world, we can increase the conservation efforts supporting them.

Feel free to check out all the animal adventures on my YouTube (linked below)!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Honestly, I think finding out I love animals so much has been a surprise to my audience! Like I mentioned, I kept it out of the spotlight for so long that most people thought I my main passions were things like fitness and health… when in reality it’s animals and traveling that I love the most!
