Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Ibarra.
Hi Jose, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
my name is Jose. I have been making music for almost 20 years but only 5 of those years as a solo artist. The previous years i was part of a few bands in different genres ranging from pop/punk and melodic hardcore. jWondr began in the middle of the pandemic. Influenced by different eras of hip/hop and taking a sample based approach inspired by producers such as Kanye West, J Dilla, 9th Wonder, and Madlib. I look to tell a story using every sound at my disposal.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
being and introverted person, i struggle with the promotion and marketing. I definitely have to step out of my comfort zone to put my work out there. It’s easy to get discouraged.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
i still have a lot that i can learn, but i believe that my greatest strength is the ability to flip samples. Taking an original song and using its sounds to create my own song. I don’t think I am at a level to be known for anything, but that’s something that I specialize in.
I am proud of my perseverance. I recently release my debut album titled “phases”, I am proud of that. Available on all platforms by the way.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Endless possibilities. Life sometimes gets too overwhelming and you can get caught in the same routine very easy, but there is so much you can do.
