Rising Stars: Meet Jose Aguilar of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Aguilar

Hi Jose, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my singing career en Central Valley where I grow up. I immigrated to the US when I was 11 years old and we land in this little city called Porterville CA. I didn’t no that I had the singing talent teal I had my first audition for musical Theater. My teacher rest in peace. Anthony Cordova discover my singing talent. I remember that the day of my audition I didn’t had in idea what I was getting in to it. I remember that we were in the classroom and they were probably about 10 other students that they were doing the same audition. Interesting part about it is that they had experience in music they even Know how to play An instrument. my teacher knew that I didn’t know anything about music so he told everybody to be quiet and asked me what are you going to sing? My answer was I don’t know he said what do you mean you don’t know? I said I don’t know the name of the song, he’s like it’s fine. You’re here for a reason just sing when I started singing everybody just got quiet now I know the most of those auditions that you sing maybe seconds out of the song in my case, he let me sing the whole entire song after I finish my song he stopped me and he asked me have you ever thought about being a professional recording artist I said no, he asked me why? I said I don’t know. He said I’m gonna tell you why. The reason you don’t know is because you don’t believe in yourself, you could become a professional artist. He also said star born in some other ones just become you are one of those that was born to be a star.. From the moment, I realize the music was my passion. The music was something that I wanted to take it to another level, but I didn’t have no idea how to start or to go do nothing.. so my first opportunity came when in my hometown they were going to have this big mariachi festival. I wanted to be part of it, but there was no way they gonna let me because I didn’t have no experience to show. Remember remember That I introduce myself to the organizer of the event, and I beg him to let me sing after insisting too many times he finally said yes, but he told me that the only way I was going to sing it was during the inner meeting section when everybody leaves to go buy stuff or to go to the restroom and I said it’s fine. I will do that the other thing I had to pay my ticket to go, and I did that, the festival was going on the Mariachi band didn’t show up so they were 15 minute space that it had to be covered. It was almost the end of the festival when I heard organizer his name was Fran Chavez yelling and asking for my name finally I saw him and he was in front of me and he told me today is your night you can do whatever you want you can sing you can dance you can do whatever you want. You have 15 minutes for all yours. It was my first opportunity. I remember I sang four songs to the audience, it was a big crowd , and there was one particular song that Dedicate to all the mothers that they were attending, and that was my first innovation from the audience after this opportunity one The band they were performing they hire me to go on a tour for six months as an open act for them, and that was when I got my first experience as a recording artist to be in front of public and to be able to become a performer right after this experience I had the opportunity to do an audition for a singing Contacts to the boys for the American Idol, which was called objetivo Fama That was broadcast through Univision and Puerto Rico.. I can say that this opportunity since they picked me gave me the opportunity to understand what it was to be a professional recording artist and performance I went all the way to the semifinal when the show finished that’s when I got my first Label contract and Record my first independent album which was called Oxygeno. This album was recording here in LA. It was more towards the pop and rock genre right after this album. I got the opportunity to do an audition for a very known Norteño Band. Which they harm me we got signed to another. Label and I did a five-year contract with them. I did three albums with them not only here locally but we also did few other shows in my homeland, Mexico and Central America right by 2017. That’s when I finish my contract with this Nathaniel band, which the name was. Delirio Norteño. I had the choice to renew the contract for another five years or let it go and give myself a chance to pursue as a solace with Banda sinaloense Which is still consider original Mexican music. At this point, I needed someone that had the experience to take my career to the next level so what I did, I hired my brother, and we decide to look for the right manager or business manager, that I can help us take my career to the next level. At this time there was this guy who had a very successful career with other original Mexican artist specifically with Jeni Rivera. He had work with this singer for the last five successful years so when I approach him, he told me that he was not interested. He was already retired and plus he was very expensive to work with him at this point in my life I didn’t care I just wanted to work. I just wanted to give myself a chance I wanted to pursue it. I wanted to become someone, so I agree upon whatever it took to take the next step, his name was Pete Salgado . I can tell you that the two years that I work with him I learned a lot I took a lot from him because in order for you to succeed in any career the most important part is to understand the reason why are you doing whatever you’re doing and finding out who you are and who you are. I remember one time he asked me what did you want to become and I said whatever people want me to become he reply. It’s not what the people want you to become. It’s what you want to become.. from the moment, I realize the responsibility was no one else than mine to work hard off to become who I wanted to become. Since this point of my life, I have released five different singles as an independent artist and I have traveled and I only here in the US, but also in Mexico, I also have been invited to perform national television, including Univision and Telemundo.
Now today, I have my own independent label, which is called Homer music Entertainment which gives me the opportunity to work on my own paste and also help other independent upcoming Artist. I’m also about release my newest single that I record in Guadalara Mexico 🇲🇽 and also doing a collaboration with a Colombian artist that it will be lounge at the beginning of 2025

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel that my biggest challenge it’s to find the right people that they care as much as you do for your career. I feel that a lot of the times when there’s money in Bob people in general they care more how much they’re gonna charge you versus how much can they do for you, and this could become a very challenging situation, especially when you barely started without knowing the business itself

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a local recording artist from Los Angeles I sing Mexican original music
At this point in my life, I don’t just do private shows, but I also do concerts and clubs on whoever hires me and also depending on their budget I record my music on my own paste. I have my own music and all the digital stores on my own pace too I produce my own music videos. I sell music and I sell my shows.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I feel that my biggest childhood memory was working with my parents and Central Valley picking fruit because I couldn’t understand that this type of hard job people had to do it all their lives. I understood that for me it was just temporary so because of this I appreciate everything that I have. I’m thankful.
