Hi Jesenia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From a young age, I was always drawn to the arts no matter the medium. I vividly remember jumping from one hobby to another always eager to explore new creative outlets. It wasn’t until high school that I began to take it more seriously. Luckily, I attended a school with a strong arts program that offered a variety of pathways to check out. I was accepted into the Fine Arts, Media, and Entertainment (FAME) Academy, where I studied video production, editing, and journalism. This experience provided me with valuable entry-level insights into the industry, and I quickly realized that I wanted to pursue a career in the field.
After graduating, I moved from Los Angeles to the Inland Empire. It was hard to find community at first, but I soon worked as a production assistant on a music video for a local band. This led to a long-term collaboration with this production company, where I not only honed many essential skills but also met incredible people and had the opportunity to work on amazing projects. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the journey that’s shaped my profession so far.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One thing I still struggle with sometimes is imposter syndrome. Because I engage in various creative pursuits, it’s challenging to fit myself into a single niche, which can make me feel undeserving of any specific title. It’s also difficult not to compare myself to other artists around me who’ve had different opportunities or more experience in a certain area. I believe this is a very common feeling amongst independent creatives that is not talked about enough. We are often our own harshest critics, but it’s important to be kind to ourselves- not only to truly love our work but to love ourselves as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a proud Latina artist with a diverse focus in set design, graphic design, photography, and writing. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to numerous projects across pre-production, on-set, and post-production stages. I have a deep passion for entertainment and advertising design, creating flyers for events or posters for musical artists. Oftentimes, I blend my photography into my collage art to give it a more personal touch. I’m incredibly proud of how my skills have evolved over the years, and I’m excited to continue pushing the boundaries of my craft in any way I can.
Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to collaborating with more like-minded creatives soon! Music is such a big part of my life and I’m excited to work with local artists -both big and small- on their projects or my own. I’m also planning to direct more photoshoots in the near future. I recently started participating in a modeling campaign/PR, and I’m really enjoying it! I’d love to explore more clothing brands to partner with. Lastly, I’ve been carefully curating a passion project that ties back to my roots in journalism, and I’m excited to bring it to life this year.
