Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Nguyen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At a young age, I always knew I was a big fan of the beauty industry. Growing up Me and my family didn’t have much, but we were always grateful of what did have. I was also the troublemaker of the family so I definitely gave my family a hard time, I never really knew where life would take me and what path I would go on. Growing up I had the worst adhd and couldn’t focus in school but also school wasn’t really my thing.
In 2017, I had seen that lash extensions were trending, so I took a leap of faith and I took my first lash course for the first two years it was the hardest thing ever just not getting clients and trying to promote your business but also didn’t have a great mentorship. I took the time to make sure I mastered lashing but not only that I took the time to learn how to edit my photos and make sure how to take pictures all on my own. My entire lash career I took 1 lash course and everything else I learned on my own. It’s now 2023 and I am still a lash artist and have been training people for the next past three years I also came out with my first lash extensions tweezer collection that is currently sold out. I am happy I never gave up on lashing it turned out to be the best career decision. I did start off being home base for a few years but now I actually work in this little studio so it is a big upgrade. My next career step is to finally open up a storefront hopefully in the next few years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting this lash career was never easy especially financially investing in this when you’re really working a 9-5 job and living paycheck to paycheck. I knew in my heart that I had to invest in this. I knew that this was for me, it was never easy though; I had actually gave up on myself for six months because I felt like I didn’t have great mentors and I just felt lost. I didn’t want to spend more money that I didn’t have on another lash course so I made sure that I took the time to practice and practice I had two part-time jobs but I still had to make time to practice every day after I got off work. It was definitely a struggle and I lost faith in having this as my career for a while but I knew I couldn’t give up just like that. I knew anything I put my mind to I know that I can do so for the next five years I started building my clientele. From then on clients just kept coming and I knew that this was for me because I worked so hard for it. I eventually became A educator where I trained other students.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a lash artist, I’m proud that I never gave up and that in everything that I went through in this entire career journey I kept going never looked back.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Do your research on who you train with, you want to make sure whoever you train with is going to be there for your lifetime you want to make sure that you ask others on the reviews of the training course. This is your hard-earned money that you are investing in Learn from the mistake that I did and make sure that you know what you’re getting yourself into it is definitely going to be hard and never easy and if anybody ever tells you it’s easy they’re lying to you.
