Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Fernandez Perelman.
Hi Jen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a food entrepreneur/storyteller born in Argentina and raised in Puerto Rico. I was born into a very culturally eclectic family. My mother’s family is Russian and my dad, who’s Puerto Rican, also lived for 30 years in Spain so I grew up with a mix of all of these cultures. I moved to Los Angeles nine years ago and after working for four years in the TV/Film Industry, I decided to turn my passion for food into a business. After one year of working on the project, I launched Dolccelina in September of 2021 as a direct-to-consumer online shop. We make organic Dulce de Leche & gluten-free Alfajores (which are cookies filled with Dulce de Leche) and thankfully, this is what I now do full-time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I guess my biggest struggle was myself. I really struggled to be patient and have faith that my unusual path was the right path for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently work full-time in my food startup, an online dessert shop that focuses on healthier Latin sweets. I’m proud of having started this company during the beginning of covid and that I turned something that seemed like a long distant dream into a reality. I think what sets me apart is that I have such an eclectic work and personal history. I’ve been able to explore very different industries where I learned so many different skills that I never thought could connect but now they’re helping me succeed.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My resilience and faith, even when everything looked like it was crumbling, I continued working and believing in myself.
