Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Lee
Jay , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jay Lee, and I am currently a blues, session guitarist. I first picked up the guitar as a simple hobby, but as I kept practicing, I developed a desire to play better. Listening to Gary Moore’s performances drew me even deeper into the blues genre. That’s when I truly began to play the guitar with passion. After going through various experiences, including military bands and Berklee College of Music, I have now settled in LA, working hard to carve out a new life as a musician.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t always easy. The profession of a musician, after all, doesn’t provide a stable or fixed income, so my parents had a lot of concerns. However, I gradually informed them of my achievements—passing auditions, getting into school, and releasing an album. Over time, I received more positive responses regarding my dream.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a blues, session guitarist. I mainly work on recording other artists’ songs and going on tour. Recently, a song from a K-pop group called One Pact was released, and that album resonated with me the most. I strive to keep a modern feel in my playing while staying true to the essence of the blues.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe that starting music was an act of taking risks on my part. Of course, now I have achieved a lot as a musician because I took those risks. However, my parents have always wished for me to live a stable life without worrying about money, so they didn’t view the profession of a musician positively.
