Rising Stars: Meet Jane Burke of North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Burke

Jane , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got started in music playing in big band and jazz band. I did it just for fun, never thinking that I would actually become consumed in music and pursue it as a career. I started songwriting and applied to Berklee College of Music where I studied music business and Electronic Production and Sound Design. I learned so much about how the industry works, how to make great songs, and how to work with people. Through interning with a focus on music business I found PrimalHouse Music, the company I now work for where I have the role of music supervisor. I was interested in music licensing and how music works in the film side of entertainment. I am also continuing to make music and write songs for my artist project JANIE, collaborating with great people that I connected with both at school and in Los Angeles.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Sometimes things fall in place. For me, my internship let to a full-time job working in a creative industry. Theres a lot to be grateful for about that, but adapting to the real industry after college is tough and figuring things out is hard and tiring at times. Feelings of doubt and imposter syndrome definitely take over in regards to both my music supervision job and my artist project, but I like what I do so I continue to push forward. I have faith that things will work out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
On the musician/ songwriter side of things, I’m a small fish, but I love to write and top line. I’m definitely most known for pop and electronic genres, hoping to find the perfect catchy hooks. I’m most proud of the songs that I’ve helped write for other people. I love to listen to them and feel so good hearing how my small part contributed to something great. What sets me apart is that I don’t like to follow the rules, I like to think outside the box and what could make things more interesting. I never learned the rules, but I really like to break them.

What’s next?
I just released a single, “Backrooms”, and I have a collaboration with my friend KERO, “crazy4u”, releasing early August. My plan or the future so far is to continue releasing music, working on promotion, playing more shows live, and living in the moment. I’m really looking forward to people hearing my new songs and dancing to them and having my friends DJ with them.
