Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Szabo.
Hi Jaclyn , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I loved to document family and friends as a kid, with whatever film camera I could find ( a lot of disposables). I am a very sentimental person and that really made me appreciate the little moments in my life by wanting to photograph them. I went to Brooks Institute of Photography and got my B.A in commercial photography and from there I was on my path. I worked for a couple different photography studios after college and then decided it was time to branch out on my own. Weddings and Family photography really has a place in my heart because there is real connection there and that is something I love to be apart of and photograph.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There has been struggles of course! Being a self employed photographer means paychecks aren’t always steady and the path is not certain. I have had seasons that I have very little to no work and in those seasons I make sure to keep in mind that it will pass and things will be busy again. I now know what my busy and slow seasons are on the calendar and can mostly prepare for them which helps. But being a artist means there will be struggle, but there will also be so much reward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a family and couples photographer. My work tends to have a natural, bright, lifestyle feel to it and I am known for that. I am most proud of the fact that most of my clients have come from word of mouth and with that I have been able to meet a lot of like minded people to work / create with. I love when I can be with individuals throughout the milestones in their lives, from engagement to yearly family photos it just deepens our connection and comfortability when working together.
What sets me apart from others is that I have a lot of experience in many different environments and can find the beauty in everything. I also strive to make photo sessions a fun and enjoyable experience where you are connecting with the people you love, doing what you love to get genuine emotion.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am just excited to keep creating with some cool people and I am looking forward to playing with more film photography in my sessions as well, where it all began for me. So all those who want to create some tender hearted art together lets do it!
