Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackson Baker
Hi Jackson, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ever since I was five I have always had a camera on me. It wasn’t until 8th grade that I found out that photography could be a full-time job. So I decided to keep improving my craft and making new and better work every day. I decided I should go to college to learn the history of photography and also a more technical point of view. Once I graduated I decided to move to LA to do Photos full-time here instead!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a lot of highs and lows. I had to overcome a lot of things like convincing my parents that this could be an actual job and that I could make a living taking photos. But there’s been a lot of ups and downs but I still love it every day with the extreme late nights and the super early mornings.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The type of photos I take are fashion-related and also product-related. Right now I specialize in fashion photography. I am known for my use of high-contrast scenes on location by using an external light source on my subject. Something I am going to be known for is my high fashion film photography. Out of all my work I am most proud of my film photography. My film work is what truly makes me feel like a creator and an artist and that’s what I love so much about the media.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t say no, be a yes person. I would not be here without taking risks and any opportunity that comes to you. You never know who you might meet going out to do some work. I have met amazing people while just walking on the street and taking photos of random people.
