Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackii Chavarria
Hi Jackii, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated back in 2015 with a 3D animation background from a small college called The Art Institute of Orange County. I always loved drawing and anything that had to do with art, I am a very creative person for as far back as I can remember!
Right after graduating, I landed a role as a junior motion designer in Thousand Oaks, where I created marketing ads for brands like Dole and Jollibee. From there soon after I went to another marketing agency where I currently am now! I climbed up the ladder to Senior Motion Designer where I help establish marketing looks for clients like Netflix, Warner Bros, Lionsgate, Amazon and many more!
Motion graphics is very fun! It’s like a dabble between special effects and animation. Anything that moves on your screen I can animate! It’s one of my many passions but since I work on it for 8 hours a day I needed a different creative outlet.
I sketched occasionally, but the real spark came when my college hosted an art fair. Not only did I want to participate, I wanted to offer a unique product besides prints. I was inspired by vendors at artist alley conventions and wanted to find a way to get my foot in the door. From small college art fairs eventually I graduated to farmer markets, and from farmer markets I slowly started making enough to join larger conventions.
The journey has been steady and I’ve loved every step! Along the way I mad a lot of friends and even joined a powerlifting community! Strangely enough lifting also helped me create a niche in my work!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been gradual for me since I do have a full time job I am not always at my 100% towards my shop. I think I would have grown faster if I dedicated all my time towards it but it’s still my hobby!
It also took me a while to establish my look and the message I want to portray. My shop even went thru a name change to help identify my style. When the idea for a name change hit, it brought so much fun and energy! People instantly get from the name that this shop is all about being lighthearted and just being a goober!
It took me 4 years to figure out my shops identity so don’t feel discouraged if you’re still finding your way!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I enjoy drawing inspiration from anime culture and adding a nostalgic, meme-inspired twist. My aim is to create a fusion of cultural influences that resonates with people beyond the anime community!
I’m best known for my adorable sea critter keychains! This year, I launched a collection of emote hair clips, which has really given the shop a fresh twist. From angry to excited to confused expressions, people love adding these clips to their cosplays! I believe this really sets me apart, since I haven’t seen other shops dedicate hair accessories by gaming culture!
Another aspect that distinguishes me is my passion for embodying the characters I draw. If my characters are muscular, I aim to reflect that aesthetic! It may be a niche interest, but I enjoy creating art that revolves around lifting. Even tho it’s not highlighted in my personal shop, catch those creations at Kinda Fit Kinda Fat!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The major risk is always starting. If I didn’t decide to make the plunge I wouldn’t be here today. If I never reached out to others I wouldn’t be in these collab opportunities. If I didn’t invest my money on new ideas I would have never started a trend.
This applies to anything, if you don’t start, don’t communicate, don’t do, you’ll never know how far you’ll go!
