Rising Stars: Meet Israel Guzman of Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Israel Guzman.

Hi Israel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story? It hasn’t been easy, I’ll tell you that much. I basically have two rules: Rule 1- be grateful.
Rule 2- if it feels like magic and madness all at the same time, I’m in.

I began my hair journey in 2019, right before covid. I assisted during a time when everything was uncertain. I wasn’t even sure if I would still be able to have a career in hair. All I knew is that I wasn’t going to give up. Not after all the time and sacrifice I put into getting my cosmetology license.

I was determined to master hair coloring and deepen my understanding of all things hair. But beyond that, I also wanted to learn the ins and outs of running a business. I wanted to see what happens behind the scenes- the best practices to follow and the mistakes to avoid. I assisted for about 2 and a half years. I highly recommend assisting, especially if you want to be in a high end salon or want to learn how to attract your dream clientele.

After working in several luxury salons in the Beverly Hills area, I was able to slowly build a clientele. My experience at each of these salons served a higher purpose. They helped me grow as an artist and they helped me build my confidence. I took daily notes of what worked for me and what I struggled with. I then realized that having my own work space would be the direction I wanted to take my career.

I am proud to say that I have my very own studio in the heart of Beverly Hills- a dream I manifested into reality. It’s truly empowering to say it out loud. I specialize in hair color services, including balayage, dimensional highlights, bleach and tones, and all-over color. In addition, I’m a certified hair extensions specialist, with expertise in micro-bead application method, also known as iTip hair extensions.

My studio is a space for positive energy, where beauty and self-care go hand in hand. Here, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere designed to make you feel your best, Along with expert hair color and extensions services, I offer a curated selection of hair care products and self-care essentials, including crystals to promote good energy. It’s more than just a salon, its an experience.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely been a fun, scary, and rewarding journey. What is life without the challenges. The major struggle I would say is staying motivated. A lot has changed since covid.

I think the main difference now is that you have to try harder to stand out. You have to try harder to offer something truly special among some of the most talented artists out there. I say that because of social media. Social media has truly changed everything. I noticed that clients are now seeking a specific someone for their personal care services, rather than just calling a big name salon and taking any appointment that may be available. That is something very powerful for an artist, but also very hard to survive in when you’re just starting out.

I had to recognize my strengths fast. The process of custom coloring extensions and watching the transformations come to life truly lit a fire in me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Hair coloring is my passion- it’s the reason I joined this industry. I currently offer both hair color and extensions services, drawing inspiration from everything from high-fashion runway looks to effortless, everyday beauty. As a certified extensions specialist, I offer iTip extensions, keratin tip, and tape-in extensions. I carefully hand-select beautiful Slavic hair and offer a variety of lengths and textures.

Every appointment begins with a thoughtful consultation. This personalized approach is at the core of my work. We may hear this all the time, but this step is essential.

Hair extensions initially intimidated me. I actually hated working with them as an assistant. But once I saw the emotional connection, the transformations, and the confidence they brought to clients, I knew I wanted to be a part of this art form.

I began by custom coloring extensions for a hair brand, turning endless bundles of hair into someones dream look. Over time, I wanted to take it a step further. Why not color both the client’s hair and the extensions, then bring it all together by installing my creation myself? So, I did.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 crisis brought many hard lessons. I really had to swim during one of the toughest times. But I am grateful for the journey and my experience during that time.

Be ready to adapt to change. Be ready to accept change. There is no simpler way to put it, and that has been my strong suit. I have my previous retail experience to thank for that.
