Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Bosley.
Hi Grace, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always loved film, all aspects of it. I was the kid who would watch every single last special feature on the DVD just so I could see the other side of things. It was so cool to me. I knew I had to be in this industry in some way. I remember having a dream when I was about eight years old where I was working on a movie set. That was when I knew I was thoroughly obsessed.
As a kid, I would make little movies with my Beanie Babies. I remember I had the script for James and the Giant peach. So I immediately got to casting my favorite animals in each role. I taught myself how to edit on Windows Movie Maker.
I was introduced to performing through my church as a very small child. We had an amazing music theater program run by a very talented husband and wife who started on Broadway. That’s where I started auditioning, singing and acting in musicals, from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat to Les Misérables. My dad did theater when he was in his twenties and started again when I began to show interest. We sorta went at it together. Both my parents supported me in taking acting classes, doing little theater, getting an agent and going to auditions. In my high school years, Louisiana started to boom as an entertainment hub. So there was quite a bit of excitement and opportunity surrounding me.
After high school, I came out to Los Angeles so I could be surrounded by the industry and all the people who live it as much as I do. And It’s been an amazing learning experience ever since. I have loved working behind and in front of the camera, from pre-production all the way to post-production.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road hasn’t always been smooth and I am very thankful for that. I needed to grow up and learn some lessons.
I started out in this industry a lot like many others who dream of walking into the city and being handed opportunities left and right. That naivete is great for getting you here and getting you started, but it can’t last if you want to last in this city. Los Angeles is no cakewalk of a city. Glad to say that after almost a decade out here in Los Angeles, I have developed a very thick skin for hardships.
I am very independent, sometimes to a fault. I struggled a lot with hiding away and secluding myself from this wild city and just being fine with that. I had to realize that I can’t go it alone. Because when they say “it’s all about who you know” they aren’t exaggerating.
I also found that building a support system, a family gives you real sticking power in LA. You have to find your tribe. This industry tests your mental health and stamina like no other. So when those hard nights hit, having a strong support system of people in my life was the best thing in the world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a filmmaker, actor, editor, and producer for Tangerine Funk and Rapid Reelz. I am also writing and developing several films and shows currently. As an actress, I am known for playing very dramatic roles. Often a damsel in distress with a polarity and strength that helps her win in the end.
As an editor, I mostly work with narrative pieces. I enjoy working on both dramatic and comedic projects. I have recently finished my 3rd feature, Amazon Queen.
For Tangerine Funk, I am currently developing my third directorial short film to begin shooting later this year.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The Libby app by the Los Angeles Public Library. Audiobooks are the answer to LA traffic.
