Today we’d like to introduce you to Giselle Portillo.
Hi Giselle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My business was created with the intent to create new flavors of cookies, cakes, and other desserts. I love seeing people enjoy my creations and ask for more! I am most proud of my mini pancake, which has the ability to awaken anyone’s sweet tooth. I admit it has not been an easy journey, but my customer made it worth it. Currently, I am focusing on mini pancakes, and since the launch of this product have gotten nothing but blessings. I am excited about how this journey will flourish into a career and see my growth.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been as smooth but I knew that failure cannot beat me. The most important lesson I have learned in my business is to not be afraid to take risks. The initial insecurities that I experienced held me back to many opportunities until I decided to just go for it. If risks are not taken, I’ll miss out on positive outcomes. If there was a time where I took a risk and I failed, I know to do better next time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am a full-time student at CSU Los Angeles. I’m a Nursing major and I am excited how this journey will flourish into a career and see my growth. I recently finished up a CNA program which I plan to turn into a bachelor’s in Nursing and minoring in Business. I believe I am persistent and smart enough to follow both my passions of medicine and culinary arts. As of today, I believe it is my passion for baking that has made me who I am today.
Any big plans?
Some future plans for my business include starting up a local coffee / dessert shop where I can showcase my love though the two best things in this world. My sisters and I plan to open up a shop to give back to our community. We have always had this dream but we hope to make it a reality. I will also continue to pursue nursing and continue with my academic career.
