Rising Stars: Meet Genise Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genise Thomas.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started from a little girl growing up in New York who always dreamed in becoming an entrepreneur and a person whose purpose to help others. Of course, growing up in New York and experienced life early as a teen mom, parents who were on drugs, low self-esteem and raised by a grandmother who worked three jobs to raise 11 children – LIFE for me happened early. I believe I got to be where I am today by having to persevere through hardships, a lot of No’s and pretty much not giving up on myself. I have an amazing husband who definitely helped and supported me in my journey along the way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth road? Absolutely not. Single mom 2x’s by the age 21 Both parents not bring around especially while going through these hard times. When I became a full-time entrepreneur was my first time experiencing firsthand racism and inequality due to my race, age and gender. That experience was brutal but again, I believe it made me stronger.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multi-hyphenate creative. I am also an entrepreneur who really lives to help other creatives succeed through mentoring, connecting, supporting, and often times funding. I own a full-service management company called InPower; I recently launched my water brand called Inpowered Culture which is messaging through water – Inpowered Culture ™ is a premium water brand that aims to amplify positive change through its campaigns that inspire, promote, and socially impact the community. I am most proud of my children in their accomplishments and how they work with me to build our family business. The most thing that I am proud of is getting an education when the odds were against me being a young mother. What sets me apart from others is my crazy faith, coupled with tenacity and pure heart to help others without anything in return. I’m most fulfilled when others succeed.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I feel everything happens for a reason. Good, bad, or indifferent. All of these experiences definitely help mold and shape me at each level of success.
