Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Miller.
Hi Evan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello everyone! My name is Evan Miller (28) and I am an artist, born and Raised in Los Angeles, California. Being creative has always been a part of me and something that allows me to express who I truly am but I never considered myself an artist until I began honing my crafts. I am an Entertainer, Singer, Dancer, and Choreographer that loves to light up the world and people with my artistry.
My childhood was not the easiest. Although there were the natural problems and drama that came along with family, most of everyone did what they could to look after me, and keep me protected. For that, I am forever grateful. We may not have had everything that we wanted, but we certainly had everything we needed. Lessons, moments, memories, and over all love. I’ve spent many moments alone, using my imagination, which has helped me to become who I am today, a creator.
I continue creating art because It is not just something to make, but a place to go, mentally speaking. For me and those who experience my art. A place where feelings of happiness and joy can be restored and rebirth into the world.
My first performance was at 5 in the kindergarten talent show. I knew from then on that the stage was where I was meant to be! Idolizing my father, Eddie Miller who is a professional world touring musician, and Michael Jackson, It’s always been my dream to go on tour, and play music just like them. My mother was also a singer in college, so I grew up performing for family and many crowds over the years!
From talent shows in Elementary, to school plays in Junior High, Solo performances in High school as a singer and becoming a star on the dance team, then and now there is nothing I love more than performing as an artist.
Some places I have been lucky to perform include: Carnegie Hall and The Lincoln Center as a singer. The Cheerleading World Championships, NCA Cheerleading College nationals as professional/competitive cheerleader. ABC TV, The Women Rock Rhodes Fest, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Making the Team, Todrick Hall, and many more as a dancer and choreographer.
I have had an amazing time on my journey thus far, finding myself and becoming an artist. Through out all of my outlets, I have been lucky enough to have always found the height of my career to be through the most challenging of processes and on the most exciting of stages. Falling in love with the creative process while in all of the places I have been, has humbled me in ways un imaginable which is why I appreciate art and its completed form, entirely. For me, it has always been music, dance of all forms ( cheerleading, gymnastics, music composition, choreography, etc.) that has allowed me to share my passion for exciting others. Connecting with people through movement and music is something unique that I enjoy working on daily to hone and perfect so that I continuously inspire others to be their highest most vibrant self. Being able to bring someone into my world but allow them to continue being themselves, un-judged is what makes being a creative artist special to me. Its not only what I do, but who I am inside and out.
I’m very excited to continue my current endeavors as an artist. I am excited to announce that I am back to actively creating and producing music for the masses and that there are multiple projects on the way! I’m excited to give back to the communities that built me. Giving them places where they can become all they want to be through art. I’m continuously working towards that everyday, healing the world through art.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s hard to answer this with a yes or no. The moments that were rocky brought about the moments that were smooth and grand. That’s what makes appreciating the process so great. The hard, challenging moments push the artist to become who and what they need to be in order to enjoy the successes we all work so hard for.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
This career can be very grueling to those who want to jump to the top. Staying focused on the journey that builds the final goal is what’s most important and what most lose sight of. The excitement from performing and seeing someone appreciate the art that’s created, whether it’s one, or one hundred thousand, is a feeling like no other. It’s incredibly elevating and has a lot of power to not only heal the artist, but those who are effected by the art as well. Being an artist is not just physical, or emotional, but a language without words.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a mentor would be to first, be honest about what it is that you want to do in any endeavor and journey that you decide to take part on. Finding a mentor is about having some one in your life thats going to have your best interest unconditionally. Someone who will push you to be your best and not give up on you no matter how hard it becomes. Making sure they are a good person is definitely a trait that I personally look for as it makes for a good relationship via mentor – mentee.
As far as networking, submerging yourself into the culture of the art form is most important as it’ll put you around the people that can help you to elevate to the next level. Being a social butterfly never hurts either. Making lasting friendships to me is a key to making collaborations and networking successful. Being likable is the main trait that one should carry however, being strong within your sense of self and what you have to offer is very important. Most people already know, but can often test it. Lastly believing in yourself and your art is the main key. Staying calm, humble and hungry through everything will keep everything fresh for all.
