Rising Stars: Meet Emily Rose Epstein

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Rose Epstein.

Hi Emily Rose, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Rounders started in late 2017 after the dissolution of my previous country band. I had formed two country bands before that that practiced a lot and played some shows but the momentum kind of wasn’t there and I felt like I wanted to sort of take it more seriously. I had a bunch of songs and Liz Garo who used to book the Echo and a ton of other spots and owns Stories threw me on the Roots Roadhouse bill that year so I got a band together with a bunch of my old friends and the rest is history!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t at all been a smooth road. We had some personnel changes that were tough in the band…our drummer, Jordan, was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2021, we’ve gone through a lot of really difficult stuff in this band. That’s why putting out our record finally with Jordan playing on it was such a proud moment for us. It took so long to get it done but it was important for us to have that memory preserved, the way he played, his specific Jordan style.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re a traditional country band. The songs I write are really in the style of artists who have inspired me and who uplift me like Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Tom T. Hall, Doug Sahm, and Patsy Cline. I think we’re known for songs that are from the heart. I think a good country song is for everyone, it’s something that anyone can listen to and relate to or feel something for. I’m proud of being able to make music that seems to connect with people and lift them up and I’m proud to be a part of the long lineage of country musicians making this kind of music.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Savage Lovecast/Dan Savage changed my life. We all love Cocaine and Rhinestones and the work that Tyler Coe is doing to tell the country music narrative that’s often left untold. I think starting a list of books that changed my life would be hard to do.
