Rising Stars: Meet Emily Oberhand of West Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Oberhand

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Snacking Emily was born out of a deep love for cooking and a passion for sharing the joy that good food can bring.
Cooking and baking have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My fondest childhood memories are from my grandma’s house, where ingredients would be lined up on the kitchen counter, ready for us to measure, mix, and bake together. From baking lemon bars in the summer to hamentaschen for Purim and special rolls for Passover, we had a blast trying new recipes and creating delicious treats.
Although I took a break from baking during college and my move to New York, my passion for cooking never waned. Over the years, I’ve collected over 20 cookbooks and many food blog book marks for inspiration. Like many others, I suddenly had lots of time during the pandemic to reignite my passion in the kitchen. While everyone on my social media feed seemed to be making banana bread and sourdough, I was perfecting my lemon poppyseed loaf. The process of refining and repeating recipes became my lockdown pastime, leading me to start a blog to memorialize my creations and an Instagram to create corresponding videos.
Currently, I have three series: the Summer of Salmon, Deviled Egg of the Month, and High Protein High Fiber recipes. Alongside these series, I post other creative recipes that I believe will be show-stoppers for others to make and share with friends.
I believe that good food has the power to bring people together, creating moments of connection and joy. There’s nothing quite like seeing my recipe become the star of a party, knowing that it contributed to a memorable experience. It touches my heart when people make my recipes and share how they’ve positively impacted their day.
Join me in exploring recipes that nourish the heart. Whether you’re looking for something new to try or a dish that will impress at your next gathering, I’m here to share my creations with you!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is a LOT to food blogging that I had no idea about. SEO, keyword research, and all that go along with an optimized blog are all new concepts to me. I am a CPA turned software salesperson by trade, so it has been quite the challenge to get my recipes searchable on Google! Of course, the social media algorithms are a black box mystery and continue to be a challenge. Some recipes go viral and some are only seen by my closest of friends.
I try to not let those external factors deter or discourage me from creating fantastic recipes that are delicious and easy to make. I know that in time, my recipes will be found by the right people!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I was a CPA for about 7 years at a Big 4 Accounting Firm. I then transitioned into a software sales engineer role. I cook and bake on the side during any and all free time!

I make recipes that are healthy, delicious, and easy to make. I cook California cuisine with a Middle Eastern and Jewish influence.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Persistence and creativity are essential qualities for a food blogger. For any entrepreneur there will be challenges and failures along the way. Having a goal and working towards that goal day in and day out, ignoring the negative, are key. Specifically in food blogging, creativity is super important so that you aren’t creating redundant content and people will have a reason to come back to your page!
