Rising Stars: Meet Emilie Pierre-Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilie Pierre-Paul.

Emilie Pierre-Paul

Hi Emilie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Acting has always been my dream. At any childhood age, one could’ve asked young Emilie “What do you want to be when you grow up”. The little girl at any stage would have told you with a bold, confident smile an actress. The the five year old would tell you this with certainty. It was my wildest fantasy. At 14, I had a defining moment. Every part of me was artistic. I was in every school play, and all of my extracurriculars were creative. One day, I was watching a performing arts television show and something just clicked. I can not explain how, why or give further logistics. All I can tell you is that something just clicked. The performers graced the stage in perfect synchronicity. The lighting, sound and visuals of the production came together to create a masterpiece. It suddenly made sense. There was a purpose attached to my passion. That year I got my headshots and began auditioning. I was booked on my second audition! I still believe that was a sign from God. At 17, I went off to college and received my Bachelor in Fine Arts degree. I moved to Los Angeles in May of 2021. I have been working exceptionally hard to continue advancing my career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been anything but a smooth road. My path has been filled with obstacle after obstacle. I am grateful to have obtained my Bachelor in Fine Arts degree; however, I experienced immense racism at the university I attended. Prejudice came from every angle. Discrimination came from not only my peers but the professors themselves. Expectedly, racism continues to be an ongoing theme in my journey. I am still healing from my experiences, so I will stop here.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actress first. I want to make that clear. I love diving deep into a character and figuring out their nuances and mannerisms. I am obsessed with psychology. One of the beauties of life is that every human being has a unique perspective. I love learning about a character’s past and creating a backstory. I spend ample time on mood boards and specific details of a character’s life to create the most authentic environment. Acting is such a mesmerizing art, and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to share my gifts with the world. I am most proud of my work ethic, creativity and ability to be resourceful. I am able to create my own opportunities. I am also building my social media following, and I have amassed 65,000 followers on TikTok. There you can catch my depictions of reality.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Personally, as a black woman resilience and tenacity contribute most to my success.
