Rising Stars: Meet Ella Harrington of Echo Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Harrington.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up loving fashion. I must’ve watched The Devil Wears Prada 100 times. But, after I graduated college I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do. I worked at a holistic health startup for a bit but quickly realized that wasn’t for me. My mom had worked in TV as a Producer and whenever I used to visit her at work I would say hi to the stylist and love to look at the clothes. My mom mentioned that I should reach back out to the stylist Amy Acton (Founder of Acton Style Group) to just ask her some questions and see what area of fashion might be best for me. It can be such a big industry that I wasn’t exactly sure where to start or what to look for. I ended up meeting with Amy and we hit it off. And a couple months later she asked if I’d be interested in being her stylist assistant. I went on to work with her for about 2 years and learned so much. To this day we still work together occasionally, last summer I worked on the Paris Olympics with her and her team!

I wanted to continue learning more about the different areas of fashion so I decided to see what else was out there. I reached out to someone at The Wall Group and after chatting I was added onto the assistant roster list. A couple days later a stylist reached out and I guess you can see the rest is history! I got to know her assistant well and she referred me to another job. From there it kind of just took off like wildfire. I’ve come to learn that the celebrity stylist and stylist assistant world is a super small industry. I’ve met some of my closest friends here and we’re always here to help each other out and refer each other if we can’t do a job. I’ve now been in this field of the industry for about 3 years and have worked with some amazing stylists such as Chloe Takayanagi, Jeanne Yang, Katie Bofshever, Joseph Cassell, Erin Walsh and more!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think I’ve been pretty lucky and it’s been a pretty smooth ride for me. But with everything in life it has its ups and downs. I’m very grateful I had a smooth journey into the industry but I think one of the main things I’ve struggled with along the way is with the work/life balance. I love my job but sometimes it can be all consuming, to the point where you’re working multiple weekends in a row with long hour days. I think the longer I’ve been in the industry I’ve learned how and when to take breaks. And I remember in the beginning when I wouldn’t even want one because I loved it so much but I think that wears off after a while and also isn’t the healthiest. I will say that you definitely have to love this job and be committed to it!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a celebrity stylist assistant! I mainly work with stylists on red carpet events but I’ve done editorials, commercials, music videos, campaigns, and tours. It’s hard to choose what I’m most proud of because I’ve been lucky enough to work on incredible projects. But, I would say I’m most proud of helping stylist Joseph Cassell and his team with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, it was truly an unbelievable experience and something I feel like that goes down in history!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite and most used app for work (besides my email) is the Vogue app. If you go to the Runway section on it they have all the designers you could ever think of. And when you have to make selects on the go it’s super easy to just screenshot and then email them to the PR agency!

I also love spirituality and although it’s not a part of my job I try to blend it in when times are more stressful and also in every day life. My favorite podcast for fun is Expanded by To Be Magnetic. It’s all about neural manifestation and subconscious beliefs! I’ve gotten really into astrology so another favorite podcast is Intuitive Astrology with Molly McCord! My favorite books are The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo and The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I love both of them because it just reminds me what life is all about!
