Today we’d like to introduce you to Effy Harvard
Hi Effy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a silent poet for some time, but the speed of life pushed me into aiming for the stars, where I really wanted to be. A singer. My best friend Julia Cole and I wrote a song over a video chat, I recorded my vocals using “voice memo” on my iPhone, and I began researching producer’s work from country music playlists. After cold messaging for months, I finally got the response I dreamed of! And from a producer I had no business messaging, he’s been part of #1 songs. The day after landing in Nashville, we wrote 3 songs, brought in a full band at Omni Studios, and recorded vocals at the legendary Sound Emporium in less than a week. I am honored I was able to co-write with David Fanning and Ben Williams, they wrote “Tennessee Orange,” a song I had on repeat the majority of 2023. I thought of this idea for my first single to be about wearing a mistresses’ boots that were left at my partner’s home. Instead of feeling defeated and heartbroken, it’s an empowering song of knowing it was their loss not mine. I wrote it for my younger self, a message I needed in my early 20s when I experienced variations of this story. Marrying humorous songwriting and a 1960s sound, my debut single “Her Boots” released April 12.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course I wish I had began this journey sooner, but at the same time, I don’t think I would’ve had this perspective. Everything makes more sense looking back rather than in the moment. A challenge I’ve put off is singing in front of people, its always been a private passion. But, I have a feeling after a few performances, I will fall in love with it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For awhile now, I’ve been modeling to support myself and I feel excited to blend this with music. Writing wise, I specialize in being emotional; the complexities of our feelings, they’re not typically linear. My second release will expound on that, I am so jazzed to put the next song out. Coming out as a new country music artist, my style is classic country, 1950s-1970s music feels like home. Loretta Lynn, Linda Martell, and Patsy Cline have influenced me greatly.
