Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Resende.

Eduardo Resende

Hi Eduardo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where music is a significant part of our culture. While I don’t come from a family of professional musicians, music has always played a major role in my life. During family dinners, my parents used to play CDs, and I distinctly remember being captivated by albums from Elvis Presley and The Beatles. This sparked my interest in playing the guitar, and at the age of 8, I began taking classical guitar group lessons at my school.

Learning my first chords was a turning point, and I recall enthusiastically walking around my parent’s house, playing the guitar everywhere. As I slowly developed a fascination with the electric guitar, my interest shifted towards playing modern rock music. At 13, my parents gifted me my first electric guitar, marking a life-changing moment. Music became an integral part of me, prompting me to realize that I needed to pursue this passion.

During my teenage years, I immersed myself in playing with various bands around Rio. Eventually, I set my sights on Berklee College of Music in Boston, embarking on a year-long study to prepare for the audition. Successfully gaining acceptance was a pivotal moment that altered the course of my life. Starting at Berklee at 19, my mindset was geared towards becoming the best guitarist I could be.

Berklee exposed me to numerous career paths in music that I had never considered back in Brazil. Writing music for films, TV, and games emerged as a potential career which I had never thought possible before. At the peak of the pandemic, I secured an internship at a production music house in Boston, specializing in compositions for the Discovery network. Hearing my music on TV shows fueled my determination to pursue this path, leading me to move to Los Angeles right after graduation – the heart of the entertainment industry.

Since then, I’ve been involved in creating music for Hollywood movies, major streaming TV series, various video games, advertisements, and even sports broadcasts. The connections I’ve made in LA have been invaluable, and I’ve been lucky to work with great people who make the creative process a pleasure.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Any career in this industry comes with a lot of challenges, and failure is just a part of the journey. I believe that the biggest struggle is being away from home and family. Even though you can do a lot remotely nowadays, being here in Los Angeles, developing genuine, organic relationships with your peers is the way to go.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a music composer for film, TV, games, and various forms of visual media. My repertoire spans a wide array of music genres, ranging from orchestral to electronic, rock to pop, and hip-hop to comedy. Throughout my work, my focus remains on prioritizing the storytelling aspect above all else. Music, to me, serves as a powerful tool for directors, helping to emphasize elements in the narrative. Different genres evoke distinct emotions from the audience, and my ability to speak various musical languages to complement the visuals is a skill I take pride in.

Among the projects that hold a special place in my heart, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with the incredible composer Steve Davis on films such as Jason Statham’s “The Beekeeper,” which currently stands as the top-grossing movie of 2024 globally, and Sky’s “Zuckerberg: King of the Metaverse.”

In the TV realm, my musical contributions extend to highly-rated series like “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge,” “Death by Fame,” and “Murder in the Heartland.” Additionally, I’ve crafted music for NFL broadcasts on CBS, relishing the experience of hearing my compositions on live sports broadcasts reaching audiences nationwide.

Venturing into the video game world, I had the pleasure of composing for the VR game “Star Realm VR,” recently released on the Meta store. This innovative virtual reality multiplayer sandbox-building and social platform allows players to collaboratively build and decorate floating islands. Working on such a groundbreaking project with an incredible team of creatives was an immensely enjoyable experience.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The traffic is undoubtedly the aspect I dislike the most about LA. It could be 10 pm on a Wednesday, and you’ll still find yourself stuck in traffic. Nevertheless, the weather and the natural beauty surrounding LA truly compensate for it. I enjoy going on bike rides along the coast, going for hikes, or even taking a drive out to Big Bear for a day of snowboarding and coming back.
