Rising Stars: Meet Dr. Kristy Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kristy Thomas.

Dr. Kristy Thomas

Hi Dr. Kristy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I knew I always wanted to be an educator ever since I was in high school. There were other things that came into my life that I also decided to hold on to like focusing my education path on theater and performance. In addition to the idea that I wanted to be a college professor in hopes of teaching future teachers. 11 years ago, I started my writing and publishing business that works with middle school, high school, and college competitive acting teams. I love to write. That was probably the greatest surprise of my life, when I decided that instead of being an actress and telling stories on stage I wanted to sit at my desk on my computer and write them. Starting my writing and publishing business also encouraged me to start writing plays, two of which I have had produced in festivals in New York City. Most recently I have finished my doctoral degree in education with a focus on higher education in hopes of making my dream of teaching future teachers come true very soon.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Interesting question, I would have to say that it’s definitely not been a smooth road while recognizing that the road could have been much more difficult than what it was. One of the greatest gifts that I have always had was not only the support of my parents but the support of my brothers and the rest of my family. Having a solid support system of family and close lifelong friend is by far one of the most important aspects of success that I was blessed with, and I recognize that other people may not be able to say the same. Having multiple people to call on my worst days is a saving grace.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have my hands mixed up in a couple of different areas. My heart truly lives in two places the 1st place I ever experienced which was the arts and the second place is within education. On the side of the arts, I am a creative person and have been ever since I started taking acting classes at the age of five. Starting out as an actor over the years I evolved into a different type of storytelling and began to write. Presently I am living in Los Angeles, CA where I aspire to be a writer for television but I am also always writing a play, poetry, and other short stories as a part of my everyday journaling. I also do voiceover work as well. My writing and publishing business, Always Writing 4 U, has clients all over the country. I love connecting with the students and the coaches that are performing the stories that I am writing. I have had continued success within my business and this summer I’m celebrating the publication of my 600th title. My hope for my clients is that they continue to enjoy the stories that they are telling and continue to excel in their performances. I am most known for my dramatic stories which is also what I tap into for my plays. I am also proud that people see me as accessible and approachable within this very niche area of performance and that too makes me happy. I believe what sets me apart from others is my personality. The most difficult part about running a business for me was that I have the extroverted personality of my lovely mother, father, and brothers. I am very extroverted and I like to communicate with people and encourage students. I try my best to keep things as positive as possible. I am very compassionate which can sometimes work against running a business (the expectation of no emotions) but I believe that my clients and my students respect me for the work I do and my ability to do it with a smile on my face, a level of pride, and always with joy.

My next chapter, is beginning as we speak. Recently I graduated with my EdD in Higher Education with concentration on Leadership and Organizational Management. My next step is to begin working to either teach future teachers, or work for an organization as an administrative trainer to employees. I am also working at Harvard University, more specifically the Harvard Debate Institute where I will be their DEI Director. All of these jobs work hand in hand and make me very versatile in my abilities. At the end of the day as far as leading is concerned my goal is always to make sure that the people I am supporting feel like they are being supported in the most positive way possible while also learning their craft whatever that may be. I consider myself to be a lifelong educator and couldn’t imagine a world where I am not in some way teaching. That job may look differently than just standing in the classroom, it may be administrative in a school district, administrative at a college, or teaching college students. No matter the look, I’m ready for this next chapter.,
