Rising Stars: Meet Dominique Evans of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Evans.

Hi Dominique, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Wow where do I start lol. A photographer and many others said I should and im like “ok how?!” I join a Facebook group. I got one gig and ot was awesome. Nothing happened for almost a year. , like no one wanted to work with me. I remember getting a gig with Kerri jean about mental health and it was a powerful piece. The gig that started all was with Helen Graham and Clay. Took some great pictures. Helen told me about a photo meet-up. I almost didnt go. I went, did some networking and throws rest is history. I was working eith Helen more and meeting others along the way. My world expanding at such a fast rate and so was I. Acting started around the same time as well

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha not smooth at all. Definitely dealt with not landing gigs or photographers not wanting to shoot me. I did care though. My mindset so was ” if they dont want to work with me now, I wont give them the chance when im famous “. Basically some doors wont open for you, which is why you just make your own.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Im a professional actor and model. Modeling picked factor so im more well know in that community. When I I started to get speaking lines, people took notice in thst world as well.
I have to say that im most proud of myself for not giving up on this journey. Getting to the destination can be rough. People dont talk about the journey. I have to keep going.

Royal Retribution, a film by retrohawk studios, Dustin Hawkins. I swear it was the BEST SET ive been on. Fantastic crew members. A-LIST actors/actresses on set and one hell of a stunt company: Ronin stunt company. Last but not least, the film was shot on the property of Tony Ackerman, a wizard with set design and millions creations.

Im most proud of my first film with a speaking role! Cartwright Steel, directed by Max jolly. I originally didnt audition for the part. I audition for the Luke cage type character. I was asked if I want to audition for the role of “Jake” . Max liked my audition and I got the part! I got to work with Rachel Klewicki and Antonio Chevere. GREATS ACTORS. Rachel made me a better actor. Antonio motivates me to be better. I also got to work with Barry Wilson, Vern Thunderson,Parker Johnson. The jolly family, Beverly Michelle and many others

Ok last one , im really proud of the first Shakespearean play i got to be apart of. MacbethKc. Written and directed by Keyon Monte. Challenging but yet it was worth it. I became a better actor because of that play. Groundbreaking, creative and it made an impact on my life. Great cast and crew all around.

What does success mean to you?
If you knew you couldn’t fail. How would you go?
I say this because it motivates me to never give, and just try.

Also, when I can do this full time and bills are paid 🤣🤣.

I will also add that success looks like when others come to you for advice. People meet you and want to improve themselves as well. I get to work with people who are creative and talented like me! That right there is success
