Rising Stars: Meet Divorced Dad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Divorced Dad.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi Voyage LA! Thank you for this opportunity and outlet to express myself. My name is Aldo and I go by Divorced Dad. I am a polymath creative – to put it plainly, I’m a jack of all trades and a master of none.

I wear a number of hats, but primarily focus my attention on music production/songwriting/DJing, styling/occasional modeling, and creative direction.

Growing up in LA, I always wanted to leave an impact in creative industries but was too shy to network – until I mustered up the courage to move to NYC at 18 and coast-hopped for the better part of four years.

In that time span, I shadowed a notable record producer and picked up a few tricks of the trade before trying out production and DJing myself. I’ve always been a fan of live music (and music in general) so I caught on quick and branded myself as Divorced Dad. I have no kids lol – the name is a play on the phrase “sins of the father.”

Living in NYC naturally forced me to step my style up (read: walking around SoHo while dusty humbles you QUICK) as well so I became brand conscious and eventually reached out to like-minded fashion-forward creatives in my quest to define my personal aesthetic. The lessons stuck and I’ve been shopping ever since!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not. There’s an adage about overnight successes taking ten years to pop and it’s true AF. I had a lot of false starts and got bigheaded as a result which definitely hampered my growth and blocked more than a few blessings.

I mostly struggled with self-image and inner demons but with patience and grace, I found a good flow for myself and the road has been gradually less rocky with time. I started at 18 and am only now beginning to see my seeds bear fruit.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Primarily I’m a songwriter and record producer – I’ve been working with my good friend and talented collaborator Kristian Hamilton on material and have a single out together called “prtty ppl.” It’s out now on all streaming platforms!

On the low, I cut hair and can hook up a MEAN fade.

As a whole, I feel like I stand out simply by being myself and *especially unpredictable* – no two people know me for the same reasons.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I don’t read often, but a few books have stuck with me over the years – I recommend that everyone reads The Miracle of Self Discipline by Brian Tracy. I always return to it when I feel like I fell off lol.

App-wise, I love Reddit and Facebook. Man, Facebook is undefeated lmao lotta of strange memes and individuals on that platform. I also love Twitter and IG – shouts out Patia’s Fantasy World.
