Rising Stars: Meet Dead End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dead End.

DEAD END

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We all attend Los Angeles College of Music, that is where we met. Our singer (Alec Gillespie) needed to form a band for a school project. How we started was nothing like how we are now. We were dumb kids with no direction and our music sucked. But Alec held on and urged us to stick with it. After some trial and error, we figured it out. What we wanted and the type of sound we were going for. As soon as we got Brandon Lutz on drums, Anthony Saldana on guitar, and David Eizi on Bass everything else just started falling into place. We all took inspiration from the angry bands that we listened to growing up and did something really cool. Since then, with the help of our friends and community, we’ve been able to grow and be a part of some great projects. Like recording our first debut album, being on the roster for the first-ever PunchFest music festival in OC, or being featured on the season 8-hour special finale of USC’s Soundstage.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever smooth or easy. Especially for an angry Hardcore-Punk band. Our biggest issue was trying to start a scene in Pasadena. Mainly because our music goes against the upper-middle class, ethnically exclusive area that we found ourselves living in. When we first started gigging around town, it was really hard to find a venue that would let us play because they assumed that us and the crowd that we played to is there to hurt each other or cause destruction to property. This is the type of stereotype that our community is trying to fix.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a Hardcore/Hardcore-Punk band. Forming in SoCal in 2021, we are reviving the scene through our hardcore-inspired punk sound while taking inspiration from other bands such as DUMBFUCKS, Gulch, The Germs, Sunami, and Black Flag. We have been at the forefront of social dismantlement to go against the abusive powers that suppress those believed to be lesser than them. Our music encapsulates one of the most important messages: Empowerment. We have always been by the people, for the people. Described by WRBB Radio as “the next iteration to L.A.’s iconic Punk culture”, we pull in the crowd of misfits and outcasts pushed down and ostracized by the upper class. Having performed (and soon performing) in festivals such as PunchFest and SoCal Death Fest as well as being invited to perform on the season finale of USC’s sound stage, We are making a name for ourselves steadily and surely.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
For people who are looking to do things like us. We would say it’s not just about playing as many shows as possible but also attending as many shows as possible. Whether your playing or not go to a show. Talk to the band, get in the mosh pit, and hang out with the homies. All in all, be seen and don’t be a dick. Get involved in a community and start a scene.
