Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Corpuz
Hi crystal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2014 I was already working as a medical assistant which I thought was going to be my forever career. Since the office I worked for was demanding, I was feeling burnt out and felt like I was missing out my then only sons school activities. My mother in law actually was an esthetician and lash instructor and saw how unhappy I was with my job. She convinced me to go to beauty school to become an esthetician and work for her to become a lash artist. So I quit my job and became a full time student. After school I would go to her spa and she would train me so by the time I graduated and took my exam I’d be ready to work under her. Here I am a little over 10 years later still a lash artist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh there were definitely a few bumps in the road for sure. I think the most biggest bump I would say is when we were shut down during covid. I think it’s safe to say a lot business struggled after we were allowed to open up. It was hard for me because not all of my clients came back. Majority decided to move, economic status changed and it was like I had to start all over again with my business. It actually took a few years to get back to where I used to be prior to the shut down.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a licensed esthetician specializing in lash extensions. I specialize in natural looking lash extensions. I know there isn’t many lash artists who go for a less dramatic look, but that’s where I come in. My lash sets have a more shorter, lighter and fluffy appeal. I always tell my clients that lash extensions should compliment your beauty and never over shadow it.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
As cliche as this sounds don’t give up. Keep practicing, even after you’ve got the hang of it. There are so many different techniques and styles of lashes, you’ll find your niche that will set you apart from the others.
