Rising Stars: Meet Cortney Palm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Palm.

Cortney Palm

Hi Cortney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A lifelong performer, I won beauty pageants as a baby and was always on display as a competitive gymnast. Winning awards as a pre-teen and teen in beauty pageants, I knew I was born to perform. I joined theater troupes in high school and obtained a degree in performing arts. Sushi Girl was the first film to put me on the map, working with amazing talent like Tony Todd (Candy Man) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars). Then Zombeavers rolled along and instantly became a cult classic! It was so exciting to see how the movie created life-long fans. I sought out knowledge and growth and obtained a master’s degree in forensic psychology. Eager to learn more about consciousness and healing, I journeyed to the Amazon Rainforest in Peru to sit with shamans in a sacred ceremony with plant medicines. The wisdom and healing I received inspired my children’s book, “The Adventures of Aya & Friends, Garden of Patience” which teaches children mindfulness and patience. My shamanic training and further healing inspired my self-healing book called “Flights of Non Fancy” filled with tips and techniques on how to overcome trauma and how to become empowered to live your best life. Both books are available on Amazon.com.

I am an animal activist and have marched for animal rights, participated in demonstrations at slaughterhouses, and led meditations for the activists. I have volunteered at many different animal sanctuaries around the world. I am currently a regular volunteer at Little Bear Animal Sanctuary.

I love mindfulness practices, being vegan, reading, free-diving, swimming, hiking, exploring, and hanging with animals and plants!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, I have experienced setbacks, challenges, rough patches, the works! There will always be challenges, but it is in how you approach the challenges that make you who you are. Without challenges, there wouldn’t be lessons or growth. I read once, “Good timber doesn’t grow with ease; the stronger the breeze, the stronger the trees.” That doesn’t mean we should accept or expect challenges, but to flow through life with ease and grace and to surrender to the flow rather than resist it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an actress and known for horror films. Some circles will say I am a Scream Queen, and I even won that title from a horror/spoof I did called Beyond Paranormal. I am most known for Sushi Girl, Zombeavers, and Death House. I won “Best Supporting Actress” at the Nice International Film Festival in France for Herringbone – a film based on true events of how the horrific dairy industry operates. We rescued a baby cow in the name of the film, and it was an honor to share the story of our animal brethren with the goal to help others wake up to the cruelties of the world through art to make better choices on this collective home we call Earth.

I have written two books:
1. A children’s picture book about patience and mindfulness: “The Adventure’s of Aya & Friends, Garden of Patience”
2. An adult self-healing book: “Flights of Non Fancy”

As an intuitive healer (having trained with shamans and gaining a master’s degree in psychology), I am able to read Tarot and Oracle cards for the curious seeker. I also assist people with life through mindfulness coaching and am available for virtual sessions via email (website coming soon.)

I am an animal activist, participating in demonstrations to eradicate factory farming, sharing compassionate living, promoting animal rights, and volunteering regularly at animal sanctuaries.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love all the vegan food, the active animal activists, the eclectic diversity of people, and the open-air adult playground/gym in Santa Monica. I LOATHE the traffic and pollution.
