Rising Stars: Meet Cold Culture (Band)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cold Culture (Band). They and their team shared their story with us below:

Cold Culture was established and founded by front woman Zendry Dare (Zen) alongside some high school friends/former band mates in 2016. As previous bandmates left and Zen was attending community college she met Xavier Rodriguez who is now the current lead guitar player. Xavier and Zen then established their now unique style they like to call “West Coast Emo” using influences from Midwest Emo, Modern Indie Alternative, and 00s Pop punk they have created a nostalgic yet current sound. Continuing along their journey they now have new and established members Ian Issacs on bass Guitar and Lorenzo Everett on drums. All members contribute their own unique styles and personalities to bring the band to life. Cold Culture has been said to be very family-like and welcoming to everyone even while they are having an enthusiastic performance filled with energy, they still get the crowd/fans involved in any way possible.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Any band would say the journey is NEVER easy. From various member changes to conflicting schedules, we have been through it all. All of us are establishing careers in our personal life while maintaining an environment to express our creative freedom. This has been challenging because life just simply happens. Any time we have had a difficult decision to make, we discuss it as a band together and try our best to either compromise or agree on a hard answer. Not to mention writers block can be a bands/artists worst nightmare. We have run into it countless times or we have so many ideas in our back pocket that we don’t know what to do with them. All around our journey is still progressing and we couldn’t be more proud of our growth and we are beyond grateful for the fans/friends we have made along the way. It makes the worst of days the best.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a West Coast Emo band from Pomona California. As explained previously we have a unique sound that was carved from influences from Midwest Emo, Modern Indie Alternative, and 00s Pop Punk. We also have a mascot named Floyd whois a little penguin. We also have other wacky characters like a flamingo named Melvin Mingo,  a polar bear named Pops, and a dog named Dough or also known as Double D. We have a high energy stage presence and make sure the show is enjoyable for everyone. we love to get the crowd involved in our shows and bring up volunteers or even hand out roses to certain songs (no we are not giving away which songs we do so in here. Sorry folks you’ll just have to come to a show!). Our writing highlights the importance of mental health and how no one is truly alone, even if it may feel like it from time to time. We speak openly about the importance as each band member has their own story with struggling with mental help but we seek to not only express about it through music, but also relate with so many others who have listened and resonated with our songs.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness comes in various shapes and forms. While it may never be consistent and we can feel defeated at times, we still manage to find the good even in the smallest forms. What makes us happy is being able to express our emotions creatively. We truly enjoy being able to connect with those who related to our music. Not to mention being able to build a family with your bandmates makes all the work worth it.
