Rising Stars: Meet Cindy Walker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Walker.

Hi Cindy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a long-time lover of movement and inquiry master regarding healing practices for the mind, body and soul. After enduring a challenging childhood, I went onto study extensively movement therapy, dance and psychology, first to heal myself but then to commit myself to healing others. Fast forward, after several sales and marketing careers, I finally started my own biz, Mindful Movement Yoga and Life Coaching 20 years ago. Beginning with therapeutic yoga classes, moving onto workshops and teacher training programs, retreats around the globe, creating a library of videos and recently to taking yoga of the mat ~ wellness and life coaching for clients. My journey has been uber challenging but ultimately fulfilling. My Moto: “I can do Hard Things” has gotten me through the ups and downs of life as well as running my biz successfully right through the pandemic and now in the springtime of 2022. My team and I now teach an assortment of yoga classes/styles both virtually and live in studio. I coach clients while in yoga poses, a bit like Freud used to w/ clients comfortably lounging on a coach. It is so enlivening to watch people flourish and grow beyond their wounds from yoga and mind exploration. Life is good! Life is challenging. Life is good. Namaste.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a rocky road for sure. I was born w/ a digestive disease and am on a super restricted diet. When I eat perfectly, I am well. If I sneak in sugar or wheat, I am toast for the next few days. When owning a small biz, there are no days off and during covid, no one to hand over responsibilities to, hence, I work well or not, and have learned to be comfortable when uncomfortable.

Covid threw us all a curveball. Within three days, I had to close our studio space, figure out Zoom, become a tech genius for our clients, and well teach to a camera w/ constant tech glitches and wifi challenges. Whew! Somehow we got through those 2+ years but not w/o a few bruises and bumps. Most clients stayed w/ me but many could not hack the Zoom experience. Sales slumped but biz expenses remained the same. After multiple applications for federal aid/grants, we finally rec’d one just in the nick of time to pay taxes and recover some expenses. Whew! Glad this chapter is abating.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a teacher of creative movement which includes all styles of yoga, pilates, fitness, swimming and hiking. My biz takes people from a place of fitness deprivation to an ongoing journey to love themselves and their bodies through movement of mind, body and spirit. I am most well known for my energetic and inspiring yoga classes that combine creative movement and yoga poses w/ cool tunes, inspirational stories and quotes, lovely hands on work and healing, and an ounce of essential oils and nourishing balms to finish during sweet savasana. I love my work as it works miracles like nothing else I have ever experienced. Movement heals. Movement moves. Movement makes everything better.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Flowers, nature, dogs, girlfriends, my husband and daughter. Love makes me happy. Giving makes me happy. Friendship makes me happy.
