Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Libby
Cindy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started KindNestQuest with a friend in 2018. Our youngest children were going off to college, and we were concerned about the state of the world they were venturing out into and the unkind nature of the discourse we were hearing. We started KindNestQuest on Instagram (the “nest” part stood for empty nest), and we thought that if people could just read or do one KIND thing every day, little by little, the world would become a kinder place (naive, perhaps, but we sincerely hoped so). My friend had to bow out for personal reasons, but I continued chugging away. My Instagram (which cross-posts to Facebook, and my content is also on Threads and TikTok) is a combination of my posts and reels (made from photos and videos I’ve taken) and third-party content, much of which is sent to me by my followers. As of today, KindNestQuest has almost 100K followers on Instagram and over 20K followers on Facebook. I can honestly say that I’ve met and become friends with like-minded, extremely kind people worldwide – I consider this such a gift. My posts are all about kindness to others and ourselves, and I don’t post anything about politics, religion, or current events. (no matter what my personal feelings are). I like to think of it as a safe space just for kindness.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The site has grown organically. It started out slowly, but little by little it was discovered by more and more people. Some of the videos I posted went viral, which helped introduce the site to new followers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I was an attorney for 20 years before I retired to raise my three now-grown children. I never thought of myself as particularly artistic, but KindNestQuest has become my creative outlet. I take photos and videos all day (driving my friends and family crazy) and match them with inspirational and motivational quotes. This was all self-taught – my early stuff was pretty rough! I’m just so proud of how KindNestQuest resonated with people – it’s become part of a worldwide “kindness movement’ fueled by many others that I’ve been blessed to be a part of.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I try not to take risks and avoid posting about controversial subjects, such as politics, religion, or current events.
