Rising Stars: Meet Chase Mullins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Mullins.

Chase Mullins

Hi Chase, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been acting since I was a kid. My first on-screen performance involved putting on an oversized Beetlejuice mask at the age of 5 while my brother mounted my dad’s massive RCA video camera on his shoulder and directed me to say random lines from the movie. Since then, I have done countless plays, had a supporting role in a Liam Neeson thriller, got to hang out with the X-Men in the Danger Room, and had the chance to talk about my favorite IMAX screens with Christopher Nolan.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but smooth; I feel like the best way to describe my career path has been one step forward, two steps back. Not all of my struggles have been unique; I think almost every actor goes through countless rejections, the stress of balancing work and life, etc. I would say that Covid and the recent strike brought me some of my biggest challenges; losing out to jobs because of logistical issues during the pandemic and projects falling through because of the length of the strike were really hard to deal with since it was all completely out of my control, but you just sort of try to let it roll off you and keep going.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been a working actor since 2010 and a full-time actor as of 2016. Most of my work has been in film, in fact I don’t think I’ve been in a television show yet. I wouldn’t say I’m known for anything, although the 2 times I have been recognized in public, once it was for ‘The Marksman,’ and the other time it was for this horror parody movie I did call ‘The Mean One’…both were bizarre experiences haha. Most of the time, it’s just people messaging me on social media. I honestly can’t say what I’m most proud of so far; I am honestly just proud and grateful to have been in anything. Anyone who does this for a living knows that just hearing someone say “yes” is all it takes to change your whole life.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve said this before in other interviews, but the thing I can’t stress enough is that so much of this job is completely out of your control. You’ve got a three-sentence breakdown of a character (if you are lucky) and about a page of dialogue; you are up against an insane number of other people who want the role just as bad as you and are probably better looking and have a better agent, then you get through to the second round, and then it goes to the producers, then the director, and then sometimes they will wanna see a chemistry test, and even if you make it through all of that… boom there is now a global pandemic, sorry, this project is being shelved for the time being. You really just have to learn to let go, which for me personally, is one of the hardest things to do.
