Rising Stars: Meet Cello Miles of North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cello Miles.

Cello Miles

Cello, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Cello Miles, I’m a rapper, actor, director born and raised in the Bay Area, now based here in LA. Maan walk you through my story huh, where do I start? Well I started writing poetry around 9 years old after being inspired by Langston Hughes. I ended up doing poetry slams around the Bay, which turned into making music in my teenage years. I started releasing music consistently in 2020 with my producer KingHazel and it’s been up ever since.

I began my acting career in 2019 and starred in a short film Executive Produced by Mr. Barry Jenkins titled “My Own Mecca”. Thus leading me to a TV show years later titled “Blindspotting” where I played as myself on the second season.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Let me start off by saying I’ve been blessed along this journey, but it’s FASHO been far from smooth. This question is ironic in many ways. My recent album “Mile 1” conceptualizes a road trip from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, and it was a bumpy one. The album is about taking that first step or reaching that first “milestone” moving toward your goals. I was dealing with the fears of taking an artistic leap in my music and leaving my comfort zone, while simultaneously juggling my acting career and corporate career.

What I’ve learned in life so far is that it’s best to appreciate the highs and lows as an artist. The trials and tribulations is what makes the end result worth it. When you reach your pinnacle, people say all you will do is think about the days you worked your hardest. So I understand that hard work, proximity, and patience is all apart of the recipe to achieve my version of success.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a musician, actor, model, screenwriter, director, editor, graphic designer, and content creator. Some say that’s a lot BUT it all somehow homogeneously works in my head ahaha. My creative freeness and direction stems from artist like Andre 3000, Childish Gambino, Tyler The Creator; they’re multi-hyphenates who blend their different forms of expression effortlessly. I’m in the middle of my journey of expression and I find inspiration from artist like those who took risks and thrive in multiple mediums.

How I believe I am different is I’m an artist who doesn’t follow the status quo, I create my own path. For example, I touch on topics in my music that not many others may talk about…seems simple but it’s rare nowadays. I love rap and jazz, I have an old soul some would say. I grew up listening to all types of music, but what I gravitated to most were artist like OutKast and Mos Def. They were droppin’ real knowledge about the human experience and how to maneuver through society intelligently, specifically as a black man. I wanna carve out my lane in a similar way. Im an artist who cares about helping people with my words and having fun with it.

Also I just finished writing and co-creating a short film with my business partner Isaiah Anderson, Owner of Again Studios Inc. The screenplay is a dramatic adaptation of my EP “Not a Thru Street” and I will be playing the protagonist. That’s all I can tell ya!

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
There’s this George Addair quote: “Everything you’ve ever wanted is sitting on the other side of fear.” And on the other side of fear, is growth. That’s my mantra. I believe risk taking is vital to becoming the best version of yourself. Taking a risk is what propels you forward to your next goal. Im a risk taker no doubt.
