Rising Stars: Meet Ceiba Ixchel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ceiba Ixchel.

Hi Ceiba, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
There is nothing more important to me than to give others someone they could relate to and learn from. As a queer, Chicana, plus size witch, it was so hard for me to find accurate representation of people like me growing up. I truly believe that if I had someone who was confident in all aspects of their life that I could identify with, I would have grown into my true self much earlier in life.

I spent so much time unsure of who I was, that I ended up making all my decisions only to make others happy. I remained Catholic because my whole family is, I chose engineering as my major because that was expected of me, and I never really pursued my true passions. It wasn’t until I lost someone close to me that I realized life is too fragile not to spend it doing what you want. I dropped out of UCR to follow my dreams. Three years later, I am truly on the path that feels right for me. As a professional tarot reader, I am able to connect with people one-on-one and guide them towards choosing their own path/reaching their true potential. On top of that, I have an audience of over 40 thousand people on TikTok to whom I am able to teach confidence to and share my knowledge with.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If there’s anything I’ve learned from doing tarot readings for a living, it’s that obstacles are an essential part of the journey. When I quit school, I knew nothing about what path I wanted to take: only that I wanted to connect with people. I started with what I was good at: makeup. However, being a professional MUA is not only expensive but for someone who doesn’t drive due to anxiety, it was all the more difficult to get to my clients. This career path ended up draining my energy as much as it drained my bank account. I loved makeup, but the entire time I was working as a makeup artist, something always felt like it was missing. It never occurred to me that it would be my spirituality that would lead me down the right path. I started doing tarot to make some extra cash on the side while I figured out what to do next, but then I found that the readings I did were truly making a difference. I loved doing tarot readings, my clients loved receiving them, and I was able to open their eyes to a different way of thinking. Now, my biggest obstacle is that, as an entrepreneur, I always feel like I either work too much or not enough. It’s hard to find balance, but I still feel like it’s worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a tarot reader, I see each reading as a piece of art. It has to have a flow, it has to apply to the client’s life, it has to be coherent and also spark thought. I will never send in anything that I don’t feel is perfect. Tarot is about giving guidance without giving your own opinion, so I value that above all else. As a content creator, I make videos with healing in mind. Anyone who has begun their spiritual journey knows that it can be scary without help/support. I hope to be that guide that people are seeking. Generally no matter what it is that I do, what people most recognize about me is that I am welcoming. I am willing to answer questions, have discussions, give information, and essentially be as open as possible about whatever topic it is I choose to teach that day. I make people feel comfortable and like family. That has always been my goal.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Besides passion and dedication, a big part of the reason I’ve been able to get where I am is charisma. Although I am often shy or anxious, a lot of times I make sure to be my true self when I’m creating content or interacting with clients. Careers like mine that rely heavily on marketing through social media happen to require you to be likable and charismatic. I’m blessed enough to have both these qualities. It’s the charm that hooks them, but the intelligence and honest information that keeps them interested.
