Rising Stars: Meet Catherine Asperin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Asperin.

Catherine Asperin

Hi Catherine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in the Philippines and raised in Canada, I always dreamed of making a name for myself in the entertainment and events industry to ultimately make a difference.

With a passion for events and a drive to create unforgettable experiences, I began my journey. I initially faced many challenges and setbacks due to limited resources. However, being out in the vibrant club and music scene in Vancouver, I met industry heads and entrepreneurs alike, I forged meaningful connections with influential figures in the film, music, and professional sports industries.

These friendships grew from mutual respect as the industry heads recognized my creativity, dedication to my craft, and love to help others, a handful became my mentors in their respective disciplines, guided my career path, and helped navigate the industry’s complexities.

I learned the value of fostering genuine relationships as I cherished the trust placed in me, it earned me the loyalty of my clients and collaborators in areas of concept development, strategist, media liaison to event organizer.

Until this day, through the strength of strong relationships, I would be referred to help in various projects for artists and other event management companies.

I am a huge advocate for supporting local talent and often incorporate emerging talents into events, giving them a platform to showcase their skills and gain exposure.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. I faced many challenges and setbacks along the way. I recall a time, I was commissioned to create an international event, I poured my heart and soul into it for many months, just to have to make the executive decision to cancel a month prior to the proposed event date.

I worked with people that were ungrateful for the time and effort you put into their projects; the environment was not a “team” collaborative atmosphere.

There were times I put people on that were qualified but didn’t have the tenacity to weather the storm. As one of my mentors explained it, well, allow me to paraphrase, “They don’t want to do the work; they just want to be around the limelight after you did it all”. There are many stories I can share, but one thing I learned is that it makes you stronger and a lot more wiser!

I found that the ones who you hoped to be supportive and in your corner are usually the ones that don’t support you until you make it. That’s unfortunate.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a serial entrepreneur. As much as I love the entertainment industry, I have a passion to give back to the communities and social causes such as domestic violence, homelessness, mental health and sexually abused children. It is through events and collaborations with industry friends that share the the same vision and core values is this possible.

The last few years, I have devoted my time and energy into helping others with their own businesses, it took time away from building my own, so currently, I am rebranding my events company, Meraki Events MGMT. I am also a part of embarking on a great business venture that supports men and mental health, “Men Too Matter Resources, Inc. (https://www.mentoomatter.com); there are a few in the works that I am unable to disclose at the moment.

I am known for my ability to keep my word, organization, time management, and networking skills, connecting people. In a short timeframe, deliver the results needed for an event to come into fruition seamlessly.

I specialize in concept development, and strong organization skills make me well-equipped to contribute to positively impact any project I am involved in.

To me, what sets me apart from others is my heart. I genuinely want to see everyone around me win! I put others first before my own needs (to a fault). My determination over motivation. My “why” is all those that I care about, whether family or close friends. They are my “why”.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone starting out would be a number of factors. Educate yourself in the industry you are passionate about, with purpose. When tough times present itself, you will have the determination to persevere. Surrounding yourself with those that knows/see your worth and values you makes all the difference in the world. Ultimately, never give up on your dreams!
