Rising Stars: Meet Cat Campbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cat Campbell.

Cat Campbell

Hi Cat, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Good morning, World. I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and made my way to Los Angeles after graduating from college to pour my heart into a brand-new start-up called Toms Shoes. As one of Blake Mycoskie’s first interns and working alongside brilliant young stars from around the world, I was overflowing with inspiration to give back to the world and create something beautiful. The freeness of Los Angeles and the dedication of artists and mentors I met gave me wings and a newfound understanding of purposeful change. Soon, I was drawn to the wilderness of Wyoming to take on my dream job as a high school teacher. I was excited to swim in the pristine waters of possibility and empower youth with my experiences. I spent summers guiding international backpacking and service-based expeditions for teens, and I soared with the satisfaction of doing what I loved and making a difference. My heart soon called me to follow it completely, and I embarked on a decade’s worth of solo pilgrimages and vision quests to the ends of the earth. I wanted a story to tell and more experience to offer, so I set off to find it. Photography naturally became my medium of documentation and expression. I was humbled to see, to feel, and experience the raw, miraculous, and marvelous. I wanted to share it with my family, friends, and strangers afar. I walked alone, but so many breathed vicariously through me. I walked with them in spirit as deep into the mystic as possible. From the sunflower fields of Myanmar to the mighty rivers of eastern Nepal and from the monasteries of N India to the mountain passes of Colombia, faith guided me, and my love for humankind was fortified. Jackson Hole remained my home base with familiar ties to Los Angeles. I found a niche position at a local airline that provided me flight benefits. I continued creating art, teaching children, and traveling. Cat Campbell Photography evolved as a platform to immortalize the beauty and magic I was experiencing and offer my artistry in a meaningful way to others. I am so passionate about documenting love, raw and fleeting emotion and light, and preserving the energy of sacred time capsules such as weddings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Fear. Wherever I found fear, I have conjured the courage to charge straight ahead towards it. Fear is an invitation to expand new horizons within and around oneself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My Mother, Lillian, is my greatest teacher. Her devotion to art in the realms of medical illustration, public relations, impressionism painting (co-founder of Olmsted Plein Air Invitational), and Nantucket basket weaving has an immeasurable impact on humankind’s collective joy and sense of community.

My Son, Cassidy Skye Lion. I am honored to be his mother and continue to evolve professionally to show him that magic rises to meet his and that he can do what he loves, serve humanity, and thrive.

All of the wonderful people I have had the fortune of witnessing through my lens. Thank you for trusting me to see you and document the most sacred moments.
