Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Lloyd.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I watched the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring my junior year of high school and it changed my life! Several decades later I’m still working to get myself into a fantasy adventure film like it.
Some of the training I’ve put in during those years has included swinging around large assortments of swords with the Society of American Fight Directors. I’ve lit myself on fire and thrown myself off buildings with the United Stuntmen’s Association. I’ve also honed my skills in objective seeking with a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Colorado and other acting programs.
I had to take that journey to realize that sometimes you have to do things yourself. Hence it’s finally time that I produce and direct my own fantasy adventure film! I know it took me a while to come up with that idea, but hey at least I’m here now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve always been someone who likes to go big with everything I do. So I wrote a feature film in the fantasy action genre that I would like to direct. I then priced it out and it was honestly unrealistic to think anyone would give me that money as I’m an unknown quantity as a director.
So I decided to start with the creation of a short film. My second script, I realized I was still writing too big! Though, it was in the research for the financing of that second script that inspired the idea for the film I’m producing right now.
Dauntless and the Demigod will shoot on one day, one location, and with two actors. I will be playing one of those roles. So it should be a feasible piece that I’m very excited to get off the ground. We’ve already started crowdfunding for it on Seed & Spark and I’ve been receiving great feedback!
I would love fantasy action fans to come check out our campaign, after reading this of course!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The struggle to identify myself as a performer has really crystallized what I do and what I seek out as a performer. It took a long time to believe in myself with regard to my acting abilities. While I was navigating those waters, I realized I love getting physical and using my body in an action sense.
With my experience, I could easily dive into the stunt pool and work full-time as a stunt performer. I would miss acting too much to do that though. So I seek out roles that require a strong actor and have an action component to them. Since moving to LA the ship has been moving in the right direction so to speak and I’m very grateful to be here!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think it’s easy to get swept up by the quick “hack”. There are a lot of courses and coaches out there that like to offer guarantees that they can get things started for you. I’ve been around long enough to know that this life as a performer is a marathon and not a sprint.
I try to find the folks and classes that I really enjoy and stick with them. A community where I can be honest and myself in has landed me more work than any trendy class, group, or workshop.
