Rising Stars: Meet Brooke Shepherd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Shepherd.

Brooke Shepherd

Hi Brooke, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I originally moved to LA to pursue my dance career and have been doing so for 14 years. As we all know Los Angeles is a city that enables its residents to have multiple career paths and thrive in those. So on a whim in 2019, I had a friend reach out to me and ask me to style them. I’ve always been immersed in every facet of the fashion world since I was a kid, so this didn’t feel like a stretch. Long story short, the shoot went so well, and I was so inspired by this newfound talent that I launched my styling business Stung by B that same year. Ever since then, I’ve had the pleasure of styling photo shoots, red carpets, music videos, award shows, and been able to work with actors. It’s filled me with such happiness and excitement. To unlock new potential in ones self is a beautifully freeing and powerful thing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is ever smooth, and I’ve definitely had road bumps along the way. Styling is a very hush hush but you need to be in “in the know” business, so starting out I wasn’t met with much openness. It sometimes feels like a catch-22 with things. You need to be at a certain status or have a client bringing a certain budget to the table to be able to pull clothing at certain showrooms. So if anything, that was, and sometimes can be, a tough nut to crack. But the longer I’m at it, and the more relationships I build, things open up, and a community starts to form.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is colorful, bold, and full of joy. I love when I am able to have the freedom to express that fully, but I also love when someone has a specific vision, and I get to get out of my comfort zone, challenge myself, and provide that. The thing about my work is it’s ever-changing and keeps you on your toes. You’re never pigeonholed to one thing. Also, it doesn’t hurt to just be OBSESSED with clothes and shopping.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a bit shy but always outgoing because of dance. I absolutely loved being on stage and performing. It’s where I felt at home. So again, to be able to find that feeling with this new career path is amazing to me. I’ve been dancing since I was five and by choice, it was all I knew. But I always was curious, adventurous, and down for whatever. I still am.
