Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Lee.
Hi Brittany , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am originally from Chicago and I started dancing, cheerleading, and ice skating at a very young age, I was always choreographing and creating movement wherever I was! Life happened and I took a massive break from training, but I never stopped dancing! Electronic music has my heart, specifically House & Techno Music. I danced any chance I got, wherever anyone would let me! I eventually moved to Vegas to get my undergraduate and started turning that passion into a career as a GoGo dancer while pursuing my Journalism/ TV Production degree. Freestyle GoGo dancing became my favorite style of art and I took it everywhere! I actually met my now husband over 13 years ago dancing on that Vegas stage 🥹
My husband and I briefly moved to Hawaii for work and it was there where I took my first heels choreography class in 2018. I was hooked. I started teaching myself different techniques and styles of dance until we eventually moved to LA where I started training even harder! I trained not only in the classroom, but out of the classroom. I was determined to create a new lane for myself.
I had been choreographing for quite a while but was too nervous to show my creations to the world, until someone essentially forced me because they believed in me 🙏🏻 I taught one of my very first classes through Fabletics Brand Partnership and it was right then and there I decided I wanted to create for the rest of my life for the world to see. I realized I had a super power, and that was the power of performance. I started teaching regularly in LA and Orange County as well as directing music videos and stage shows. Giving people the power to find their own DNA as performers has been the greatest gift! I came into the LA game a little later in life, but I worked and continue to work extra hard to create a lane that feels authentic to me!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no. Dance and creating dance is something I feel so strongly about and my inspiration is at an all time high. Dance is a massive investment though, financially and with time. I think the amount of artists out here that ask dancers to work for free or for “exposure” really hurts dancers ability to make this profession a full time career!
Comparison can also be tough in this industry but a friend once told me to lean into your supers power, and that’s where the magic lies! No one can ever be you!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional dancer/ Choreographer that specializes in performance based choreography. I combine my TV Production degree with dance, creating and directing different visual style music videos and stage shows. I also teach two different levels of heels classes in Los Angeles and Orange County.
I specialize in performance heels choreography with high energy explosive moments! I would say I am known for my unique blend of different styles of dance in a heel to electronic music!
I think what sets me a part is my dance journey, it is a unique one! I have mixture of professional training and am largely self taught in a lot of areas and I really push the boundaries with my music selection and choreography styles!
How do you think about luck?
I don’t think there has been any good or bad luck in my dance career. I believe my hard work has led me to both some great success and some much needed rejections. Rejections aren’t bad luck, they just redirect us and create hunger!
